Yes, they're (linguistically) related. Both languages belong to the Tai-Kadai language family.

AS ONE! like cantonese and mandarin. under chinese. it is the ignorant tais and outside powers that want us to think that we are different so that we dont unify and become a bigger race and power. because other countries bennifit with us fighting eachothers and weak. thai people are so mixed nowadays but the language is still tai. laos is still more similar to the original ai-lao ancient language but still has alot of pali influence. our other tai brothers ar tai: lue, dahm,dang,cao,zhuang,le,shan.........we need to think as one and not divided |

According to Dr. Enfield, from the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, "it is not possible to establish distinctions between 'Lao', 'Thai', and 'Isan' as separate languages or dialects by appealing to objective criteria."
You can read more about How to define "Lao", "Thai", and "Isan" language? A view from Linguistic Science here (PDF format). |
