I don't understand why there's been this long going struggle, causing inner turmoil. Why can't Tibetans just have what they want?

Because there are so many Tibetans, and they have different requests between one to another.

Some of the requests are outlandish.

There are many Tibetan want modernization, development and improvement in standard of living.

While some Tibetan monks saw modernization as the bad things and destroying Tibetan original culture and society.

Some Tibetans want to be part of China.

Some Tibetans want independent.

Some Tibetans want Dalai Lama to return and became the spiritual leader of all Tibetan people.

Some Tibetans don't want it to be happened, because Dalai Lama came from the rival sect.

Just like some "green" activists want to eliminate all nuclear power plants in his country and replaced with wind and solar power plant.

When the Prime Minister said it is impossible to eliminate all nuclear power plants.

The green activist gone mad and turn violent. Destroying public services, blockade busy roads, attacking pedestrians, etc.

It's not really that serious an issue. The American media plays it up for the Tibetan factor. There are riots in China all the time. I know of far more brutal riots between different Han Chinese groups. Turning over police cars and smashing shops are almost de rigueur for Chinese riots.

Plus, there are probably some local factors we are not aware of. Usually these riots happen because of local tension for whatever reason. Everything seems peaceful until something or another (often a relatively small issue) triggers a confrontation. Then a lot of 不明真相的人 (as my mentor calls them) take advantage of the opportunity to smash things up.

Can you even tell us, or give us a list of all the demands the Dalai Freaken Lama outlined in his "middle way approach" ?

I think not, but do continue with your moral high ground, it doesn;t make you look like an idiot

The Emperor, the Dalai Lama wants full sovereignty of 1/3 of the surface area of China, i.e., to control spiritually and politically, the whole of the Tibet regions free of the interference of Beijing. He want Tibetan Independence for his 1.2 million Gelugpa sect to control all that region. Do you agree that is reasonable?

For the benefit of our resident know-it-all ReginaRae, here is a pro-Lama news piece (I chose a Pro-lama piece because obviously ReginaRae is selective in what she will read) that touches on and implores that greedy monk to be more realistic with his outlandist list of demands. Note that these are the minimal requirments the PRC needs to adhere for talks to even take place.

I disagree with your nameing him emperor. It is the GOD-KING. "Emperor" will not suffice.

you're a sorry piece of a human being. Deadly force is the only solution? You mean like Japanese force and Nanking?

yes, of cos. and that include defending the japanese action at that time, and overturning all we know of japan in the past from the evil west.

but sarcasm and jokes aside, law enforcement should be practiced. that is - anyone who had damaged the shops are guilty and such individuals should be jailed for a duration. that is the obvious but everything else irrelevant is being mentioned except this. so much hatemongering.

LOL where did you get that pic? The DL sure has a lot of soft power, his image is synonymous with Santa Klaus, Mickey Mouse, and Brangelina...The only thing that sways westerners is good PR and hype. That is the only way to get those idiot's attention.

I think the Chinese embassy should fund Hawaiian, Alaskan, and Native American separatists like how the US embassy handed out Tibetan independence pamphlets.

I know the reason for the conflict. I don't understand why there needs to be conflict. Why Tibetans can't finally get what they want after years of struggle and torment. It's actually not that big of a deal.

Ohh, you're talking about monks who self immolate themselves and the exile government funded by overseas group? Kinda sucks that they don't get what they want.

Gd idea. Why not? If it ever work in the first place.

To bring your idea a step forward, let the natives in Hawaii and Alaska and any sizable concentrate of native American enclave poll for their independence and let nature take its course.

China and Russia should learn from the example of Hawaii, because native Hawaiians and white people who live there have the same rights, there are no ethnic areas there.

Only mainland US has some reservations, but they are on only about 2.3% of US territory.
