Years ago, I had a PC Mahjong game...which was in English, including instructions and rules. My Cantonese is rubbish...so, whenever anyone tried to explain how to calculate the points tally, or the finer details of the rules, I was lost. I could only play the game (for real) on a very basic level, and had to rely on others to calculate the points tally.

After playing the PC game and reading some of the instructions, I was much clearer on the strategies, and of course the points calculations.

Unfortunately, I do not have that game anymore, nor even remember the title/company of it.

I'm too lazy to run Google for you
but if you check "mahjong rules scoring" you should be able to find something

I love Canto mahjong
but here in Qianjiang, majiang is so damn easy....
you can't eat, you can only pong
you can call with runs, but you have to pick them yourself
and there are (almost) no points
you play for whatever amount of money you want; if you kong off of someone else, you add +1x
and if you kong off yourself, you add +2x

so, if you are playing for 20 yuan, and you have a kong from someone else, and a kong from yourself, you will either win or lose 80 yuan
I feel like I'm playing Mahjong for Idiots, but that also means I win all the time here, which is fine by me
but.... it's so hard to tell what tile people are calling off of......
there are no (scoring) rules to making hands here

I learned playing mahjong from Yahoo Games!

You can play with people all over the world, it was quite addictive.
