Never heard of it. And if China did discover America why is it credited to Christopher Columbus? Is it because he's the one to first publicize it?

Because all the documents of Chinese exploration were destroyed when the fleets returned due to the change in political leaders and such. That was when China started to turn inward, losing perspective on the outside world.

I'm going to file this in my 'special folder', along with "Phoenicians in New Zealand", "Egyptians in Mexico" and "Minoans in Minnesota".

Well...I'm not too sure on the three Indian tribes that were here before any of us. But in terms of "discovery"--making a trip from one far distant land to another with records and such, 1421 [the book] says that the Chinese reached America first.

Yeah the definition of 'discovery' is very subjective. When it comes to discovery, the Asians that migrated across the Bering Land Brigde must have been the first the discover it. The only way their statement is true is if they say the first civilization from the Old world to reach the New world.

QUOTE (xiong @ Feb 22 2004, 07:48 PM) No one should be credited for decovering america except for the "NATIVE AMERICAN" They were there first one there. You're right. However, the Native-Americans were closed off from the rest of the world. Therefore, "bridging" the "New World" to the "Old World" is still an important feat. |

I know that, Vince.
That's why I asked the question. He was an Uighur from land-locked Yunnan. |

QUOTE (Kulong @ Feb 23 2004, 11:11 AM) So why would it change anything? That has implication. That's a lot like claiming Spain discovered the New World because Christopher Columbus sailed in Spanish vessels and his expedition was financed by Spain. Columbus was Italian. |
