Ha Noi (VNA) - Cambodia's FUNCINPEC Secretary General has affirmed his party will do its utmost to consolidate and strengthen solidarity and cooperation between Cambodia and Viet Nam.

Secretary General Prince Norodom Sirivudh, of the National United Front for a Cooperative, Independent, Neutral and Peaceful Cambodia (FUNCINPEC), made the statement while talking with Phan Dien, Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Viet Nam's Central Committee, in Ha Noi on September 6.

The Cambodian representative said he highly valued the Vietnamese people's experiences in national construction, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, which has resulted in many great achievements.

Phan Dien hailed the FUNCINPEC officials' visit to Viet Nam as a contribution to the promotion of mutual understanding and the increasing ties between the two parties, as well as the friendly solidarity and time-honoured cooperation between the two countries.

He spoke highly of the enormous efforts that the Cambodian people have exerted in maintaining political stability, developing the economy and society, and expanding its external relations in order to heighten Cambodia's prestige in the region and international arena.

He expressed his belief that the Cambodian people will successfully develop their fatherland into a peaceful, independent, neutral, non-aligned and prosperous country, fostering friendly ties with all countries, including its neighbours.

Dien affirmed Viet Nam will do its best to promote friendly solidarity and traditional cooperation with Cambodia for their people's interest and for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia and the world.

The same day, the FUNCINPEC Secretary General met with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan, who is also the Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee.

The FUNCINPEC leader expressed his satisfaction with the positive developments in economic, tourist and commercial cooperation between the two countries as well as the close relationship between localities. He said he hoped that cooperation would be boosted to meet the two people's aspirations.

Deputy PM Khoan told his guests that he wanted both governments to create more favourable conditions for bilateral cooperation to flourish in the spirit of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Joint Statement, which was adopted last March.

Also today, the visiting FUNCINPEC officials held a working session with officials from the Communist Party of Viet Nam to discuss ways and means to further the ties between the two parties.

During the visit to Viet Nam from September 5-9, the Cambodian officials will tour economic establishments and cultural sites in Ha Noi, northern Quang Ninh province, southern Binh Duong province and Ho Chi Minh City.-Enditem
