Suijen and Charlee: Beijing is full of Chinese cultural relics. There are hutongs there, the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, you can access the Great Wall, and of course things associated with the new China and Mao...
You can get a lot of very, very, very cheap stuff. The people there seem pretty hearty. The people I met there had some interesting personalities. Curious but friendly. In New York you can find bits and pieces of the world in one city. If you go to New York it's a lot different than the rest of the country in many aspects (especially since it has the absolute highest foreign immigrant population in the USA, maybe the world). So it's interesting. skepticguy: The Great wall is full of steps, uneven steps at that. It was made that way so that when foreign invaders would run up it and try to attack that they would trip and fall and slow them down. So before you go you should get on the stepmaster or something to make sure you're in shape and won't pass out when you walk on it. Once you walk enough stairs, you can look down and see the tops of houses like you're in an airplane. |
