I do not know if some of them can be considered as folk/traditional games.. but here are mine.
1) Batu seremban 2) Bottle caps (where you spin the bottle caps and you have to shoot.. damn interesting game. I want to find someone to play it with me now) 3) Congkak 4) Police and Thief (Haha, catching game) 5) Then there is this one where you close your eyes then you count and when the you turn back, your friends have to stop. Otherwise they are out. Hehe. 6) Pepsi cola! Hahaha. The ones where you have to step on the person's foot. 7) Kicking soda cans 8) I played Simon Says too. But I don't think that is some M'sian made game. 9) Wahh.. a lot more but I do not know how to describe. I love my childhood too! Chinese folk games ar.. Chinese chess? Hehe. I do not know. But I played that as well. |

Nice topic!
My favourite would have to be konda-kondi and galah panjang. Also tuju kasut. Damn hurts sometime, and many times we'd often fight just cos the other guy threw too hard. The girsl have a tendency to cry when hit too hard. Simply put, konda-kondi is something like baseball, played with sticks instead of a thrower or a pitcher. You'd have your own safe bases. I used to play it everyday while waiting for the school bus. My mom would kill me if she found out, cos our white school shirts would be smudged even before school started! Also, Police and thief One two jaga Police mati pencuri jaga!!! And there was also the game main tepuk-tepuk tangan that was all the rage in my kampung, damn long one... Assalamualaikum Kum apa kombat Bat apa, batman Man apa, mentol Tol apa, tolak Lak apa, laksa Sa apa, Sepak Pak apa. pakcik Cik apa, cicak Cak apa, cawan Wan apa, 123456789, 10 Ten apa, Tembak Bak apa, bak duit!!!! The last part was when everything went kelam-kabut I still have the old congkak set at home Kids nowadays are losing a lot of essential social interactions by not playing the old games anyomore. It's all internet, PS2, etc. |

I've not played kondi-kondi. Maybe because I was from an all girls primary school.
I've got another tepuk2 tangan. "Under the rainbow Under the sea bom bom bom True love forever, true love for me When we get married, we'll have a family, under the rainbow, under the sea bom bom bom.. " Then I forgot, maybe "One two jus or something?" Also there is this one.. "Kick, open, side by side" Hahahaha. I do not know if you guys played that before And main lastik! ;p And there is this game me and my friends used to play when we're in class. "Conquer". It's like the "Go" game. Oh boy. Nostalgic. |

heh.. I remember this one simple game where you must slap your opponent hands. At first your both hands must be static infront of each other and can't move. Then simultaneous slap your opponent's hand as fast (and hard
But you can also trick your opponent by making fake movement as if you wanna slap their hands but instead you just trick him. If he dodge the fake attempt, you win. hahaha... When I was in primary school I like this game because I like bullying other kids. |

^Hahha.. I only played Tepuk kad.. but not Main Getah.
@Caramel: "chi gu pa" , I think I know that game. Using similar hand sign like "rock" ,"paper" and "scissors" but we played with both hands. and the rule to win ,we must do the same sign simultaneously with the opponent. eg, your right hand must be the same as the left hand of your opponent and so on.. LOL.. is it? |

Yup! Explained pretty well. But that doesn't change the fact that you are a big bully.

QUOTE (samheisfl @ Oct 11 2005, 07:49 PM) There are a few games that i played before.. 1. Main getah ( Macam budak perempuan lak!!) 2. Tepuk kad LOL. I loved main getah. Who said it's a girls game! All the kids played it, future metrosexual guys in the making. And tepuk getah taught us the importance of physics and aerodynamics at an early stage. Who says it's not educational? Actually another game I always played with my next next door neighbour and her sister very often was teng-teng. Thing is, I have many friends in KL, esp from PJ andDamansara who has actually never played any of these games. The closest they came to traditional games was 'main rubber' and 'main pen' in the classroom during breaks. Astagaaa... |

^you know what, Baling selipar/tuju Kasut/Kasut tiga or whatever they call it is the most challenging and noble game to play as a kid. Before we throw the school shoes/sandals/selipar Jepuns or whatever you wear to your opponents that are moving and running at that time , you must calculate the vector between your point of standing to the path that the opponents are moving so that we can get exact bearing to throw it.
You also must calculate the projectile of your "selipar Jepun", and how much power we needed to use to throw it so that the speed is appropriate.and also don't forget that you must calculate the wind speed at that time... And to dodge the "Selipar jepun" before it hits you , you must learn some stunts from tv series like "gaban" or "Kesatria Perkasa Hitam". After you master those stunts, no "selipar jepun"/school shoes/sandals can ever touch you anymore. :genius: hmm.. no wonder I always win that game... I'm not a very good shot when main lastik. You should come over my house Iron malayan. There's a troop of monkeys from the forest nearby that likes to come to our compound and just lepak there. The cheek I tell ya!!
In Shah Alam, you could sell those crows you know. |
