^The news is in 14 Dec. The article I posted is out today.
I think Thailand will get Su-30........its the best fighter Thailand could afford.... (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/embarassedlaugh.gif) . Wow...i hope this will push the Malaysian Air Force to hasten its decision on the second squadron of MRCA...either the F/A-18 Super Hornet or more Su-30MKM. What will the Thai Su-30 be called..... Su-30MKS...S for Siam. |

The MoU is as good as buying the real thing except no paper signed and formal meeting between Irkut and Thai yet.
Russia accepts barter trade.....ur lucky.....Sweden only allows small part of da payment to be in poultry and US only wants money for their F-16. |

If you ever read the news, I posted, you know that there is some sort of corruption behind this barter deal. And for the sake or Thai air force committee, they don't even like the jet because it's too large, slower than american jet, and has extremely high maintainance cost. Why am I saying all these? Didn't you read the news I posted earlier? |

Of course, F-16 and F-15 have been combat proven, at bombing defenseless Iraqis and Milosevic's army and shooting down Iranian F-4....but so does the Rafale, Eurotyphoon and Gripen. But thinking again..the Su-30 could be a logistical nightmare since RTAF operates French and American contraptions. (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/icon_confused.gif) |

SU-30s are sub par; I would rather have the RTAF aquire F-18As or the eurofighter and gripen. Russian hardware is a piece of C.R.A.P
IMO |

India ...unlike China could buy US planes anytime but they stick to SU-30 coz they know it's a good plane. |

Thailand doesnt need an offensive air component, we already have enough--we needed better 4th generation interceptors and fighter air craft, IMO. Anyone S.T.U.P.I.D enough to enter Thai Air Space will face the wrath of our F-16s. Simple as that.
Anyways. Here are some pictures of the Royal Thai Air Force in recent combat exercise. Really really good find. So happy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) : (IMG:http://img479.imageshack.us/img479/1944/copetiger200618df.jpg) RTAF F-16 in take off formation (IMG:http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/650/copetiger200630fl.jpg) RTAF F-5II Tiger Interceptor (IMG:http://img479.imageshack.us/img479/5003/copetiger200650gn.jpg) Tiger II again. rather than spend all this money on an air force, woudn't it - in the long run - work out cheaper to just develop nuclear weapons and hold southeastern asia hostage. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
on a serious note - F16s will become obsolete sooner or later. time to go arms shopping. |

The Royal Thai Air Force uses the F-16 ADF class fighter as a strategic bomber and ground pounder; it also uses the L-39 Albatross Attack air craft as a bomber as well. While the RTAF's F-16 A/B and C/D classes are primarily used as Interceptors and Fighter aircraft.
However, the RTAF does use 'conventional bombers'. Heres some pictures: (IMG:http://www.ov-10bronco.net/Pix/Misc-Bronco/ov10c_royal_thai_air_force.jpg) (IMG:http://www.ov-10bronco.net/Pix/USMC/usmc_probably_ov10a_dtm_3_big.gif) RTAF OV-10C Bronco low range bombers. These craft are primarily used as anti ground units--most of the RTAF's bronco fleet have been phased off and sold to the Philippine Air Force, which needs air units. The Broncos have been repalced by the L-39 Albatross, albeit the Albatross isnt a 'pure' bomber--the RTAF found its multi purpose capabilities rewarding than just having a 'pure medium range bomber'. (IMG:http://www.rtaf.mi.th/gallery/util-trans/g222/g222-0001.jpg) G222--Used as an all purpose bomber and transport. (IMG:http://www.rtaf.mi.th/gallery/util-trans/dc3/dc3-0001.jpg) RTAF DC3 bomber. RTAF has its DC3 fleet as a primary medium range bomber; although some of the DC3s have been converted into medical transports. (IMG:http://www.rtaf.mi.th/gallery/util-trans/c130/c130-0001.jpg) (IMG:http://www.pr.afrl.af.mil/leader/c-130.jpg) C-130 Hercules--Bomber/transport. The RTAF has had talks of purchasing long ranged bombers, however, it would be uncessary since the C-130 Hercules, DC3 or the G222 can more than cover the territories of Thailand and strategically annihilate any enemy ground forces if they so stepped into Thai territoriality. Purchasing a long range bomber would be unrealistic and controversial--as it would infer that Thailand is considering 'offensive' aerial attacks, which isnt so. I see the RTAF maintaining its current fleet of bombers as it is--with high dependence on the F-16 ADF class as the primary strategic bomber.
