Korean Origins
-------------------

Koreans are generally believed to be of Tungusic-Altaic lineage, linking them with the Japanese, Mongolians, and other Central Asians. The Northern Mongoloid peoples of North Asia and Central Asia have relatively tall statures, well-defined features (such as longer noses, and higher cheekbones) and relatively hairy bodies and faces, features that are considered to define the "prototype" Mongoloid physical type. Though they have interbred with other East Asian ethnic groups over the ages, Koreans have retained much of the physicalities of their Northern Mongoloid ancestors including tall stature, long bridged noses, higher cheekbones, and a bluish birthmark on their lower back which remain until early childhood called the "Mongolian Mark" or mongo-banjum. In contrast, the Japanese peoples have lost much of their Northern Mongoloid physicalities such as tall stature because of persistent interbreeding with Ainu natives of the archipelago.

Is this true? Do Koreans usually have longer noses, higher cheekbones, and well-defined features?

Sometimse Wikipedia is very informative and helpful and sometimes its very debatable.

well im just curious and I want more koreans to shed light on this issue. From what I've seen in real life, many koreans have similiar facial structure to Chinese and Japanese and they don't particularly have more well-defined features such as higher cheekbones and longer noses, etc.

That's why I'm asking you koreans.

you seem really uptight about anyone being positive at all about nonChinese, as thought that's got to mean he's anti-Chinese.

in this case, i don't think DR is saying he agrees that Koreans are better looking. He's questioning that, obviously.

You would get a very vauge answer, since Koreans can have different features.

Like all other groups of people, I've seen both good looking and unattractive Koreans. I don't know how to answer this, but I'd say that yeah, there are some really good looking Koreans out there. biggthumpup.gif

here's wikipedia's definition for Mongoloid:

Since people with the disability Down syndrome have some superficial Mongoloid facial features, the term "Mongoloid" was once also used as a synonym for "retarded." This usage, once neutral, is now considered offensive.

Anyway, I think the mongoloid kind of look is more associated with Chinese than Koreans. We're stereotyped as the ugly asians.

Here's definition of Han Chinese:

Han Chinese

The Han Chinese are by far the most populous Mongoloid "group"; indeed, they are often said to be the largest single group of any race. However, they are really not a truly coherent, single ethnicity. The concept of a unified group of Han Chinese is more so a cultural anthropological concept rather than an biological anthropological one. Studies have shown that the North Chinese are closer to Northern Mongoloids such as Koreans and Japanese, while the South Chinese are closer to their immediate Southern counterparts like the Lao and Vietnamese.

awe man.. i feel flaming soon to come icon_redface.gif

but before then. well girls tend to have softer features obviously. its not like the high cheekbone thing is as common for girls i think. but korean youth does tend to get pretty tall. not so much the older generations. however we have both pretty and not so pretty people just like any other nationality. icon_neutral.gif
