   There are three permanent snow glaciers on the slopes of Puncak Jaya (4884 m). Puncak Jaya is the tallest peak in the Oceania region and the second highest in SE Asia. It is also the highest island peak in the world.  Puncak Jaya (in Dutch times: Carstensz Pyramid, in Sukarno times: Puncak Sukarno) is located in the Sudirman Range, in the central part of West Papua province, near to the giant Freeport-McMoran gold and copper mine.
