why black people can say cracker and white people, cant say N*gga Options

I was on a video game forum that I occasionally post on and found these comments.

On a note about white people being racist, black people do it even more. Now, this isn't EVERY black person, (Am I offending you by saiyng black?). Now, let's see. I should probably start a new thread for this but;

Blacks are allowed to call whites crackers and it's perfectly fine, White's aren't allowed to call blacks N*ggas.

Black people can say black power, and it can seem like a rise from the opressive years, but if a white person says white power, people think he means "Death to all other races".

Blacks constantly push the white community around, this is possibly our own fault because we don't do $hit about it. I can be walking through the hall, and a black girl could just push me outta the way, without even saying sorry, or excuse me, like she expected me to just MOVE.

OH, one more thing that ticks me off, all the new generation of blacks think that THEY had to suffer from slavery, so they start treating me like I'm responsible for it. THAT PISSES ME OFF

Now, I'm NOT racist, so DON'T EVEN SAY IT. I'm just pointing out the facts.

I'm totally with this guy's point. I'll quote a movie that you guys would say is racist but has a good point "We're so hung up on this notion that we have some obligation to help the struggling black man, you know. Cut him some slack until he can overcome these historical injustices. It's crap. I mean, Christ, Lincoln freed the slaves, like, what? 130 years ago. How long does it take to get your act together? "

I want to say something, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Ideas/opinions?

1) N*gga is a word that is historically associated with slavery and oppression of blacks. N*gga was used to dehumanize blacks during periods of oppression. Cracker, while also a racist term has no association with the oppression of whites (so therefore it is not as loaded as the term "N*gga.")

2) Black power is the response to 300+ years of the formalized and informalized socioeconomic oppression of blacks. White power is the response to the advent of civil rights for minorities.

3) Social inequality in America persists to this day, the distribution of wealth and resources in American society roughly conforms to what it was in the days of slavery. Therefore social inequality among the black and white races has not changed.

besides, cracker is a funny word.

Hey, well it is not a law that people can say nigga. I think its just common knowledge that almost any "black" person in the vicinity would prolly try to kick you @$$, so out of self preservation people usually don't say it. You never know when you can get a good @$$ whoopin. IMO, nigga, is one of the greatest gifts of black youth to popular culture. The truth is, that word use to mean a waste of life, nothing, inhuman, animal, monster. But black youth has converted it to meaning comrade, friend, hommie, my nigga. Hispanic people in the ghetto use it freely, Cali people and New Yorkers know what i mean. The conflict is met when older or more holier than thous people get on the subject, see they want the word to stay as it is, to mean what it always has meant. Well i think that is just crap. Think about it, do white people teach their children to drop down on the floor in convulsion over the word cracker. Why should "black" follks have this weakness.
So if it was up to me, everyone could say it, in fact, anyone can say it. But in a social situation, i would wait to see how that particular person feels about it, some might not be as progressive as me. Also, its really hurtful to some folks.

It's all learned behavior. Many were taught to associate the term "nigga" with connection to n-gger. They were taught to hate those and be defensive to those who use it. In actuality, they just words, if there's no intention behind it. Idealistically, if starting from now we teach the new generation the word "nigga" just means black, with no negative connotation, the response to nigga will just netural. Of course, human social behavior are complex and that's not likely to happen in this century.

You have a society where one group of people was treated inhuman and another group of people that was the source of the inhuman treatment for several hundred years until a few decades ago, meaning it hasn't even been a whole generation between official discrimination being the law of the land (not even talking about the unofficial kind). I play Diablo 2 and ya alot of people there seem to love saying nigg ER constantly.

I'm so sick of this complaint anyway. The words are both racist but nigg ER is definetly more extreme and has a much more negative meaning compared to cracker. Most whites don't even know what the word means but go around b!tching about it anyway.

As for the whole why can blacks call each otha "nigga" and we can't. As near as I can figure out, lately you see more white people trying to imitate blacks than vice versa from clothing, music, manner of speech, behavior, and other crap. They weren't complaining about it 10 years ago, or 40, or 80 but now all of the sudden it's some big deal because they feel like they have some right to go around doing it.
