^ Yes. They are an ethnic minority in Myanmar, but they are genetically speaking brothers of the Thai and the Lao. They are part of the greater Tai ethnic stock.

Here are some pictures of Shan dances:

Thanks Sirikittong. (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif)

It's interesting how the Shans are the only ethnic minority in Burma whose men don't wear a sarong.

QUOTE(Viety Cent @ Nov 9 2005, 06:16 PM)

Yes definatly we arent very homongenous country with 54 ethnic minoritys... but we still have seperate pure viets as u know as Kinh's , currently the country has 83.5 million people, first largest minority Hoa ( ethnic Chinese ) , second I think the Khmer Krom people....and third not sure tai or tay maybe........

dude wtf is ameriasians ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/embarassedlaugh.gif) u mean mixed with white people .......

wat no way I dont believe we our mix with negritos I remember there were small remants of negritos in Vietnam long ago but were all extinct before Nam Viet was even created.......... No way are we mixed with negritos do u mean minority groups.............. cuz I sure dont look negritos bro I look viet ( NEA style ) ....... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/embarassedlaugh.gif)

Yes same with me too I luv it too even though I wasn't born there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_redface.gif) ...
I was born in Malaysia during the war though ... went to Canada live there for 15 years now ......... currently studying in university right now ..............

how about u bro where u live?/

I hate the commie government as well and the unjustices they done to minority groups, corruption, etc ........

P.S did u c me on Lac Viet ......... I was there u know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif) u should say hi to me there in the introduction

if you combine all of the Tai ethnics in vietnam, they are the largest minority. i dont know, i've always wondered why the vietnamese government group them so different when the truth is they can all understand eachothers with some trouble.

South thai dances : srivichai

(IMG:http://www.banramthai.com/image/srivichai.jpg)

I can help to notice the similarity of Southern Thai dance with Javanese dance, especially the "kain" or the cloth that cover legs and waist used as "sarong", the patterns looks like Javanese batik. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love2.gif)
Is it somehow influenced by Java....? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif)

Here the Bedhaya dance, from the royal court of Java.
