I used to be able to dance "Bong Lang" and "Gong Yow"........lol.......
........Not really classical Thai dancing.....lol...... Anyone remember PB's old avatar with the hand??? That's what my hand looks like.......my fingers totally curve......I can't point anymore......my fingers always point towards the ceiling...... Damn Thai dancing school and my aunt completely bent my hands when I was younger...... This post has been edited by charlee: Nov 16 2005, 03:05 PM |

QUOTE (khaviet @ Nov 10 2005, 02:21 AM) QUOTE (Sirikittong @ Nov 9 2005, 06:19 PM) The Socialist Republic of Vietnam (former) Empire of Nam Viet (IMG:http://www.misu.ait.ac.th/NewsAndEvents/newsletterData/HTMLFormat/iss3no16/Welcome08.jpg) Cham viet dance Hmm actually Vietnam has no typical dance. Except for the ethnic dance as Cham dance and Bamboo dance (bamboo is very common dance in vietnam) I think the picture above is not Cham dance, im very familiar to Cham dance coz my mom is apsara dancer. I think the picture is from Malaysia. The motifs on her dress and jewelry are Thai. I've seen similar looking stuff worn by Surin women performing as backup dancers for Surin concert music. |

Yes... it is pretty.... (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif) But I think the story behind the dance is nothing to do with thai story of peacock princess. Many Indonesian dance often simply inspired by nature's beauty, or some creatures beautiful movement. For example we have butterfly dance, and deer dance (IMG:http://www.edwebproject.org/bali/gallery/pics/dance.deer.jpg) This is Balinese Deer dance Heres more example of Javanese classic dance. The Bedhaya dance, performed on Prambanan temple, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. (IMG:http://www.clickersandflickers.org/images/Javanese_dancer,_Indonesia.jpg) Prambanan is 9th century Hindu temple, dedicated to Hindu Trimurti (Three highest God): Lord Civa, Brahma, and Vishnu. Share share! (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) The bedhaya dance picture is simply beautiful. I love the sky effect; truly the epitome of ethearal dance to the Hindu Gods. Post more pictures of yogyakarta dance, please. I am very interested. Cheers! Kingdom of Kamboja Here's some pictures of Apsara dance (IMG:http://www.asymptotics.net/vii/albums/album01/apsara_14.sized.jpg) (IMG:http://www.asymptotics.net/vii/albums/album01/apsara_04.sized.jpg) Modeled after Apasara goddesses stone carving on Angkor's wall. In Indonesia (especially Java) Apsara (Hapsara or Hapsari in Javanese tongue) also called Widodari (Bidadari in bahasa Indonesia). Which means Divine Nymph, some sort of Lesser Goddesses (unlike Main Goddesses like Uma, Parvati, or Sarasvati). Beautiful celestial maidens that lives in Svargaloka (heavens), or in some story; they inhabit Indra's Heaven/Palace (Indraloka or Kaendran). Kamboja's Apsara dance looks beautiful. Here is Wayang Golek from Western Java, Indonesia (where Majapahitans is from). They're theater puppets pretty similar to the Thai puppets.
