Here's an interesting article I found in wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kagema QUOTE Kagema (陰間) were young male prostitutes in Edo-era Japan whose clients were largely adult men. Some kagema were kabuki actors who moonlighted as prostitutes. For them, the stage frequently became an opportunity to advertise their charms, and audiences frequently became rowdy, and brawls occasionally broke out, over the favours of a particularly handsome young actor. This led, in part, to the shogunate to clamping down on kabuki in 1652. (IMG:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a4/Nishikawa-Sukenobu.jpg/450px-Nishikawa-Sukenobu.jpg) (IMG:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/aa/MORONOBU.JPG/300px-MORONOBU.JPG) I didn't realize that homosexuality was even tolerated back then. Homosexuality was not a taboo in ancient Japan. Some with China.

Think of Japan back then as a gay friendly country, like Greece and all the Greko Civs back then (200-500 B.C was even thought Alexander the great was a homosexual) it was very common during those era, in Japan though traces of it was still common during mid and late 1800's it was thought thatrelationship with another make warior was much more pure than a women (also the mindset of the Spartans it was also thought in the time when persian empire invaded greece outnumbered Spartans did each other before going off to battle as some sort of remembrance of brave warrior) (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/Talktohand.gif) This post has been edited by xXADoBOXx: Nov 23 2005, 01:09 AM |

Homosexuality in ancient Japan? Why, the very subject itself is so taboo. Of course, only Christians would have a real problem with it. There's no God in China or Japan telling people that homosexuality is wrong so naturally those guys have no problems with it. Honestly, we're supposed to be an advanced society better than our predecessors. How can homosexuality be a problem in any society these days?
