Our lack of love for country translates into the many litters of our society such corruption, greed, selfishness, disunity, insurgence, lack of national ambition.

If we can change ourselves as people, we can move this country forward and onward. What a country has become is only reflective of its people. Let's decide now and take off to a more brighter future for the Filipinos. We were one of Asia's brightest stars, however that doesn't mean we cannot revive the grandeur and pride among us once again. Our people has many more talents that need to be recognized, harnessed, shared and radiated to others... WE CAN WIN AND REFORM THIS COUNTRY.

China, who were during ancient times a rich nation, is awakened from its centuries of deep slumber and it is now roaring like a dragon that is ready to show the world its awesome power and majestic beauty. Now, let it be the Philippines turn in the spotlight and awaken that great Filipino spirit of the 50s and transform it into a New Economic Miracle of ASIA.

Be united as a people and show your love for country by improving your own self. Make the SICKMAN OF ASIA become well and miraculously healed of its diseases. Let us be inspired by successes of others and make our own MARK!!!

(IMG:http://logo.cafepress.com/1/10747.73541.jpg) THE SPEAKS
"An All-Pinoy US-Based Rock Band "

A round of applause to the roster of internationally acclaimed Pinoy artists who made it big and have created a niche in the entertainment industry; Filipino talents are truly remarkable.

An addition to this list is the new phenomenal all-Pinoy US-based rock band The Speaks. The band has already a growing number of followers and their success is simply unstoppable. They owe it all to their strong vocals, catchy melodies, powerful chord progressions, addictive guitar solos and purely adrenaline/emotion-driven music.

The band is composed of:

Rafael Toledo – Vocals
Jerry Delino – Bass
Johnny Abelende – Percussion
Siegfred Fuster - Lead Guitar
Archie Dela Cruz - Rhythm Guitar

BIOGRAPHY:

TheSpeaks’ infectious sound and amazing live performances are quickly creating impact within the local, national, and international music scene – with fans that can be found as far as New York to Los Angeles and even Europe and Asia. Like any endeavor tested by obstacles, TheSpeaks, over the past 6 years, managed to surpass numerous growing pains and several band members to get them where they are now.

Recently, TheSpeaks has been riding a huge wave of success by winning two of the largest music competitions on the east coast (JAXX 2003 Battle of the Bands & 2003 Hard Rock Café “Ultimate Altitude Buzz” DC/Baltimore Finals). Both competitions were won as a result of weeks/months of live performances and a combination of both judge/fan votes. Ultimately, TheSpeaks placed a close 2nd in the nation in the Hard Rock competition – an achievement in itself, but unprecedented for a rock group of all Asian-American descent – just further proof that music truly has no color!

From pure adrenaline-driven rock, to soulful and piercing rock ballads, TheSpeaks will take you through a roller-coaster range of emotions, with their catchy, hook-filled, Generation-Y anthems (“Life’s a Joke,” “Solitary,” “She Said…,” and their killer remake of New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle”) making you jump out of your skin with insatiable joy one minute…and bringing you near tears the next, with their heartfelt, introspective songs about self-loathing and lost loves ( “Choose”and “Feeling Strange”).

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

*1st Place -- 2003 D.C. Hard Rock Café/SoBe "Ultimate Altitude Buzz"

Battle of the Band Finals! Beat out over 100+ other bands at the Washington D.C. Hard Rock Café to be crowned regional champions and represent DC/Baltimore in the National Finals. Additionally, TheSpeaks now have a guitar permanently displayed as part of Hard Rock Cafe's DC's memorabilia - alongside musical greats like the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix.

*1st Place -- 2003 JAXX "World's Largest Battle of the Bands!" Competed against hundreds of other bands from WV to PA -- over the course of 6 months -- to win one of the largest - (60% judging/40% fan vote) true live music competitions on the east coast. Their rabid fan-base resulted in record-breaking crowds for both the Semi-Final and Final rounds.

*XM Radio Airplay - featured on R>A>D>A>R Report! TheSpeaks were hand-picked as one of several unsigned artists to be selected worldwide and featured on XM Radio's weekly R>A>D>A>R Report (XM 52 - Radio Unsigned) as one of "the 12 most notable artists in the United States."

*Washington Post 2004 Readers' Choice "Best Bet"! TheSpeaks were chosen by Washington Post readers and ranked the #2 local band in the region, just behind 2003 winners Virginia Coalition - and ahead of local greats such as Pat McGee Band and Eddie From Ohio.

*#1 in the United Kingdom 8 weeks straight on FiletopiaLive/AIIR Radio!

Discovered by DJs in London, England, working for one of the world's premier

independent online radio stations and have been listener favorites ever since -

a sign of their growing global fan-base. "Life's a Joke" debuts at #1 and remains on top for 8 straight weeks!

*2nd Place -- 2003 National Hard Rock Café/SoBe "Ultimate Altitude Buzz"

Battle of the Bands! TheSpeaks beat out thousands of other bands in the U.S. and Canada to become one of only 10 bands earning a spot as a national semi-finalist and, as a result of online voting, one of only 3 national finalists. The Speaks eventually took 2nd place in the nationwide competition.

*Finalist for DC101's "2003 Chili Cook-Off"!

TheSpeaks were chosen by DC101, DC's premier rock station, as one of the 10 finalists - out of 350+ bands - for the 2003 DC101 Chili Cook Off featuring 3 Doors Down, Third Eye Blind, and Saliva. Their song, "Life's a Joke," premiered on DC101 to become a regular mainstay on Local Lix, receiving rave reviews and an outpour of support from listeners.

*Coca-Cola's "D.C. Sessions" Concert outside MCI Center!

Played to a standing room only crowd of 10,000 people in Washington DC with Carbon Leaf, Lloyd Dobler Effect and Emmitt Swimming.

*"Live on Penn (2003 & 2004)" - DC's premier summer concert series!

Shared bill with Eve 6, Blues Traveler and Cowboy Mouth for DC's weekly summer concert event held on one of the world's most famous streets, Pennsylvania Avenue. Live on Penn also featured acts such as Collective Soul, Live, Everclear, Smile Empty Soul, and Wyclef, just to name a few.

---Information in this write-up was gathered from TheSpeaks’ website. To check out more of the band and their schedules, visit their website at www.thespeaks.com.

I would like to add to the list, the unsung heroes (if not already mentioned) the men and women who fought and died in the 2nd world war, which im glad to boast my Grandad (army) particpated in alongside Marcos who came accross one another in the prison they were both held in by the occupying japanese forces. They remained good friends beyond the war and helped veterans with their families to get state education. It paid dividends (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggthumpup.gif)

Nakakaiyak naman.. Ang daming magagaling na Pinoy and they all make us very proud for being Filipinos.. Sana man lang dadami pa mga katulad nila at gawing idolo ng mga kabataan at idolo nating lahat..

Just makes me feel bad though.. I remembered those dirty policians that ruin our country and how they make our country miserable. Sinasayang pa nila yung effort ng maraming Filipino na nagbibigay karangalan sa ating bansa. Sayang naman tlga.......

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggthumpup.gif) Yes, the Philippines is a country blessed with many natural wonders and resources; and, the best among these God-given resources is its people.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool30.gif) Let me share a few of the many Filipinos who are bringing pride and honor to the Philippines in recent history (Part II)

11. IAN RENA "Multi-Awarded Graphic Artist"
(IMG:http://www.globalpinoy.com/images/gpfeature/ian_rena_bg.jpg)
Ian Reña, who is only in his early twenties, has recently bagged the grand prize for the Photo Illustration category of the 2004 Digital Imaging Competition, a highly acclaimed contest that invites graphic artists all over the world to show their creativity to the whole world. One of the judges, digital imaging veteran Ryszard Horowitz, was impressed by Reña’s very creative output. So beautiful was his masterpiece that he bested hundreds of competitors around the world. It was published in the Popular Photography & Imaging magazine and was on display at Photo East 2004, an annual exhibit held at Jacob Javitt’s Center in New York City. According to Ian, the winning piece entitled “Rebirth” revolves around the concept of a renewed covenant with God. After coming up with a brilliant concept, he digitally manipulated it using Adobe Photoshop. As his creative juices were flowing in front of the computer, a nude picture of an artist and a picture of a nest emerged on the screen. He confessed that his work of art is a reflection of his life as a renewed Christian. His interpretation about the image is about a person who has undergone spiritual change and is now living a life of faith. He is also a consistent finalist in the Metrobank Young Painters Annual Contest and the Shell Student Art Competition.

12. CARA AREVALO "High Class Entrepreneur"
(IMG:http://www.globalpinoy.com/images/gpfeature/cara-arevalo_bg.jpg)
Cara, who is born in Sorsogon, was destined to become an excellent entrepreneur. Her parents, Caroll and Reyes Arevalo started the Georgetown & Co with a starting capital of $15, 000 in the early 80’s. Cara, who was barely 10 years old when the Georgetown & Co business realized that her future in entrepreneurship was very bright. She tailor-fitted her course in the university for their family business. Through her natural gift for fashion and design, combined with hard work and perseverance, Cara made their business very profitable it harvests around 40 percent profit annually. Through her intelligence and hardwork, the family-owned company were able to set up a showroom in Washington DC, Holiday Inn, New Jersey and Cherry Hill. She joins trade shows to know how her product fares with the competition and how the members of the upper echelon of the society would react to her creatively designed and absolutely sexy products. The 29-year old Filipina entrepreneur likens her business to a child. “I’m feeding and feeding it and it grows bigger,” she quipped. During the trade show, the souvenirs and her well-designed jewelries were sold very quickly as if they were just hotcakes! Cara related that her jewelries were conceptualized by various designers and were meticulously built at various factories in Boston and Rhode Island. Her shawls, tempered with soft silky fabric, were also a hit to the visitors. Cara was the only trade exhibitor who joined the Ms. America’s vibrant parade. She was on top of a red convertible, waving her hands gracefully. Cara was very beautiful and sexy on that day that she could be mistaken as one of the candidates of the pageant.

13. JONNEL ENORME "At Home in the Ice"
(IMG:http://www.globalpinoy.com/images/gpfeature/jonnel_inorme_bg.jpg)
From afar, he moves like a swan on the lake that is why it is not surprising how he bagged three of the 90 gold medals at the recently held World Recreational Ice Skating Championship. Jonnel Enorme, 23, is the country’s most unique ice skater. In fact, he is the only special ice skater in the country. He is suffering from cerebral palsy. He was born when her mother was only seven months pregnant. He was only as big as a corn when he was born. Because of his unusual state, his mother didn’t inform his father, a seafarer, about their son’s real condition.

Just last month, Paragua achieved the feat and overtook Eugene Torre with the distinction as the youngest Filipino to attain the GM title. Asia’s first GM, Eugene Torre, was 22 when he clinched the title in the 1974 World Chess Olympiad in Nice, France. This shows that Filipinos are world class and are able to compete internationally. They showed us that we Filipinos can shine even on a foreign place. They bring honor to our country as good examples of our people and they, who worked abroad especially the OFW's, contribute to our country billions of dollars that fuels our economy. Without them our economy is in the verge of collapse that is why those who work abroad are presently called modern day heroes of our nation. They create an image that Filipinos are great citizens from a corrupt country.
