I ave just watched a Phil. drama about a son of prisoner woman who escaped from a cruel uncle in Mindoro and came to big city with a friend for a better future,

Instead they had their money stolen and they had to enroll into a street children beggar syndicate for food and shelter by begging for money.

Apparently if the dun collect enuff money, they have their limbs chopped off.

How true is this in the Philippines or is this only in the drama? What is your government doing to stop this kind of syndicates and to help street children?

This is just my curiosity as a Malaysian? We ave beggars but never street children, not a single one in Kuala Lumpur except some rare crazy people on the streets who run away from welfare homes and authorized handicap people who sell tissue. But Malaysia have small population, so our government could still accommodate money to take care of orphans. The drama is good, it gives awareness to me to work hard so that my children and relatives dun end up that way.

there are many street children begars here in manila who are controlled by syndicates and part of the begged money will go the the syndicate. i am not familiar with the syndicates atrocities but if its true that they dont collect enough money, they have their limbs chopped off, they are breaking the law for human rights violation and child labor.

there is also a prostitution syndicate here in manila.

But do these syndicates chop off children hands and feet so that people pity them and give money?

If this is true it is truly revolting!!!

The drama also seem to emphasize on police corruption who protect these vile syndicates and brutality of prison officials who torture the mom of the street child who's in prison.

What actions do ur government or other non-givernment organizations take to tackel these syndicates?

Because syndicates are criminals.

Well, if u put it that way, i am very very glad it's not true. Still, those street children need help whther they are amputated or not.

The drama that i watched makes my heart beat fast...especially the part the boy pleaded at the syndicate gangsters not to cut his hand...he got second chance and got away and met the mother for awhile after she was recovered from a concussion after being brutally assaulted by prison guards.........the suspense is so overwhelming. biggthumpup.gif .Good drama BTW.

I can't remember the title...i watched after the intro..title is Kata Tagal......something.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/371887/mess...aiting+For+You)

not only in manila that theres street children but also in visayas ang mindanao... ive lived in manila for about months, cebu for 5 years now, and mindanao for 16 years... and all have in common... having street children and beggars ... but i didnt know if they were from a syndicate...

here in cebu... esp. in fuente osmeña, lots of street children... you can see them
inhaling something from a cellophane or plastic bag... and I found out that it’s a rugby… gosh yesterday I went to Robinsons (mall in cebu) I have seen those children doing that thing (rugby thing) and they were asking for money while doing that… imagine how horrifying that is… they do that on the sidewalks…

still Philippines is a beautiful country… lots of resorts that I assure you… is safe…

I thought the only ones who get amputated are those kids who play with firecrackers and stuff. I used to live in Manila and of course, there's craploads of street children and beggars there (I even remember, they would swim at this contaminated 'ilog' near my neighborhood), but never heard of what you were talking about.

Where do these street children come from. Are they orphans or simply abandoned. Do authorities collect them for rehabilitaion and to be rehomed?

Street children is also a problem in Thailand. But not that serious.

Do you know the Catholic authority have enuff money to repay the debts of the Third World. Ask ur Pope for money and rehome those street kids for god sake.

You know the Catholic Church has really lots of money and they do not pay taxes and the Vatican is the richest in the world. Remember that the money you give in the church and the tuition fee you pay to Catholic Schools at least 50% of it goes to the Vatican and the Vatican is getting richer while the third world countries like the Philippines sinking into child poverty.

well some of that might be true, but it doesn't mean it occurs in a regular basis. though i've never heard of such, even as urban legend, i'm sure it is not impossible esp. that some people in big cities of pi are animals, yet i would say that it doesn't occur as often as you might imagine. however there are lots of homeless kids.

Kids are kidnapped (doesn't matter whether they're rich or not) and then sold to these syndicates.

An organization called BANTAY BATA is very active in stopping crimes like this. So far they are getting some success, but because of economic issue, underage beggars are still everywhere. Sometimes being taken advantage by pedophiles from America, Europe, Korea, Japan, Australia etc. Sad to say but true.

From my experience, nuns and priests are the most vocal and vesible people that helps this kids. Bantay Bata work hand and hand with them to help this kids which politician seems to ignore.

As for you statement "money you give in the church and the tuition fee you pay to Catholic Schools at least 50% of it goes to the Vatican" is not exactly true. How about doing some research on charity works done by the Catholic church? Why blame only the Vatican for this? How about other protestant churches that ask their people for 10 percent of their salary?
