China needs to start exporting nerd-oriented obsessions pronto.

Seriously, Japanese happy-sentiment is so high in the US among the rejects/non-popular/unsocial/butstillintelligent crowd for one, and only one reason:

their pop culture.

Yes, their celebrities, their music, their miniture technology, their comics, their tv shows, their porn, etc etc etc.

Hello? Yeah, China totally needs to start exporting quality stuff like the aformentioned to increase pro-China sentiment to foreigners.

Not that it'd happen (mainly cause the Chinese government has a stick up it's @$$, and Chinese people are too uptight/busy making money/ etc), but just imagine if it DID.

One thing, Japan is winning China for making Technology stuffs. China is better at government and business than Japan.
I think China has more nerds than Japan though, in school learning and businesses.

But I think that nowadays Japanese entertainment is extremely increasing in America. Especially music, anime, and games. BIG TIME!

Martial Arts movies have and will hit it big in North America if movie makers in China are willing to make more of it. If Jackie Chan is considered good "kung fu" then there's plenty of opportunity.

You can show them the traditional stuff, but I don't want China to start whitewashing its treasures just so some fanboys can be all happy-dappy on China. We don't need to whore ourselves for affection.

yea i know, but it seems like china seems to have a negative image in the usa b/c of its "communist" gov't and all, whereas japan is a "friend" and "allie." on the most part, japane just seems more exotic to americans.

You're right that Japan and Japanese-related things automatically get tagged 'Exotic'.
There's just so much interest in the Japanese culture and language among today's youth. I guess it's safe to say that it's all thanks to Anime. Through Anime, Japan is able to market it's culture, language, words such as "kawaii!", it's traditions and celebrations as well as clothes.

Hey, I was sitting down one day listening to a group of Chinese uni students...when a mobile phone rang and one of them answered it with "Moshi moshi?" instead of a "Wai?"
Just goes to show how 'in' Japanese culture is.

I admire the way the Japanese are able to export their culture SO effectively and I wish the Chinese could do the same because our culture is just so deep and interesting. Just to name a few things: * Chinese ghost superstitions, including umbrella ghosts
* The pictography of the Chinese language etc.

Though I respect Japan, it annoys me to the core when I see Americans and kids saying "Hey! She's wearing a kimono! She's Japanese!" when what they actually see is a traditional Chinese female dress of the early
dynasties.
If the Chinese won't start marketing it's culture, it will be ignored and others will start taking credit for this and for that.

trust me, alot of ppl regard it as "exotic"....especially the maintstream ppl.
and like it has been mentioned, it has to do with their weird-pop culture....its just so weird...

like rumors of used panty machines, the image of futuristic tokyo, anime, "weird" japanese music, etc...

i think weird is the correct term... exotic is giving them too much credit and overexagerating things. i see nothing exotic about a dispenser machine that carrys used pantys , or anime , ect.

i think it also has to do with the fact that there arent many japanese overseas, as say, chinese....

so japanese people and culture seem "mystical"

even in cali, its not that easy to spot a japanese, unless you go to a japanese intense part of LA.

funny thing is Japan doesn't even intend their manga, anime, popmusic, drama's, etc. to be popular with non-japanese or non-asian people, yet those people love jpop, jrock, anime, manga and drama's, and j-idols.

there is a considerable number of cool, mature, independant, intelligent, social people who are into Japanese (pop)culture. and some who are IN Japan because of that.

自传: Yo! I'm a 5'9 Black chick living in Japan. Nuff said. *g*

OK, maybe a little more.

So, I'm, well, me. I'm a sort-of anime buff, which is part of why I ended up in Japan teaching English. (...the irony, of course, is that, since moving to Japan, I've pretty much stopped watching anime. That whole no time and no subtitles thing. Alas.) Anyway, I started out thinking anime was kinda cool, then discovered that I *loved* the Japanese language.

Anime. It IS the gateway drug.

Anyway, I love Japan, and have been told I'm never going to leave by people on both sides of the Pacific (and once that I should live in Japan forever and marry a Japanese man, because "Half babies are cute!" Direct quote.)

For fun, I study karate (well, I did before I had to have knee surgery), occasionally empoverish myself going to Tokyo on shopping sprees, run off at the mouth on my lj (I post. A lot. Deal), gorge myself on cheesy Korean melodramas (it's proof I really AM a masochist, since I spend half the time pulling at my hair and screaming "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!?" at the screen), sing opera (yeah, that's right, b!tches. I study karate AND I sing opera. Also, never let people in Japan know you can sing if you sing opera. Because if you do, you will have to sing it A LOT, and usually with no warning. Gyah) and translate stuff (because I can tell myself I'm "studying" as I read that manga. Uhh-hunh). Translating, by the way, is what I've decided I want to do for a living one day--that or continue teaching. I love translating and the challenge it poses, and I am looking forward to one day maybe becoming good at it.

Of course, that requires being able to actually speak Japanese, and uhhhhhh....yeah, so, how 'bout them Braves?

Current Musical Object of joudama's Obsession:
周杰倫 - Jay Chou. Lately, I've been into Chinese music. (*digression* Sucks, too, you know? I get into Japanese music and slowly pull myself out of the "Hey! I understood two words of that verse! Go me!" to the "I understood everything *but* two words of that verse! Go me!" and then get into Chinese music. And back to, "OK...'I' something something 'you' something 'don't' something something something 'understand' something something 'my world'." ARRRRRRRRRGH. */digression*) He completely defies any attempts at classifying him and his music. I've given up on trying. I mean, I can't even decide if I find him attractive or not. Trying to put him in a box makes my brain hurt, so I put him in the "Jay" box and leave it at that. Anyway, he rules and "Qi Li Xiang" makes me smile.

Current List of Men joudama Wants to Tie Down to a Bed and Use, Use, Use Like Whores:
1. Rain (Bi). Holy sweet goddamn. His voice is sex, and he is OH so pretty shirtless.
2. Nicholas Tse. Because, well...SWEET HOLY GODDAMN, he is because yes.
3. Daniel Radcliffe--only, uh, age him up to be legal. I just saw GoF and OH MY GOD HIS ABS. THAT put me right in the Happy Place.
4. Won Bin. Also pretty shirtless. And writhing around in the sand.
5. Tackey from Tackey & Tsubasa. The boy can't sing for $hit, but sweet damn if he doesn't have a pretty mouth.

...and yes, I do have a thing for Asian men--I like pretty, so sue me. Thanks for asking. Because when they are hot, they are very, very hot, but when they are not, they live in Gunma.

*sob*

Oh, and in case you were wondering, when God laughs at you, He *does* have Nelson's laugh. Trust me on that one.

If you are new to my journal, I recommend that you read this entry, since it explains who all the people I mention by nickname are. And if by some oddball chance you want to friend me, you don't have to ask. Me being an attention whore and all, I squee for joy whenever I look at my "friend of" list and see a new person. It's like a present, yo. XD

日本語だけのジャーナルがあります!よろしければ、joudama99 です。

And remember, kids!

自传: I've been living and working in Japan for a little over three and a half years now, and plan to stay here the rest of my life. If anyone needs any help on getting over here, info on working conditions / jobs, or anything else I could be of use for, just let me know.

I've also been an official member of Dears since I came here, and have been on 4 previous fan club tours (Hawaii, Las Vegas, snowboarding, and Australia). Hope to post the pics soon! Also, if anyone decides to come here for a visit, I'll be happy to show you around and take you for the "Gackt tour" (all the places Gackt shops, plus idol shops, doujinshi, and cosplay stores ~_^) if you're interested; nothing fancy.

Life before Japan was interesting, but America just didn't feel like home to me anymore. Music is my life though, so I hope to get back into the biz soon here in Japan. I've worked as a professional singer since I did my first embarrassing stint as "Annie" in, well... "Annie" *gags* when I was 5 years old. During and after college I worked as a sound engineer at a recording studio, as well as running the board for various live performances, doing voice overs, fx, and ADR, and editing/mixing audio for tv and film. I had the privilege (?) of meeting alot of musicians and actors that way, and learning that most of them are total d!ckmunches. Very, VERY few were down-to-earth, normal people who just happened to be rich and/or famous, which is another reason I like Gackt so much. He's such a normal (really, no joke), nice guy.

*NEW!* Disclaimer:

From the recent spate of tarditry in my LJ, I feel the need to state that no matter how many people may choose to read my LJ as a source of news about Gackt, Japan, etc. IT IS *STILL* MY PERSONAL JOURNAL, and I will say whatever the fu-k I please, about anyone or anything I choose to speak about. THIS IS *NOT* A COMMUNITY, FOLKS. If you don't like it, there's always my favorite mantra: Go. fu-k. Yourself.

Feel free to argue with me all you want, but be aware that while I respect your right to disagree, one (or all) of the images below will apply to you:

Thanks! *kissy face*

Tokyo Sling
Sekai ga matteru kara--Because the world is waiting
名字: Neo Geisha
地点: Tokyo, Japan
生日: 02-23
电邮: tokyo_sling409 @ yahoo.com

自传: A New Yorker living in Tokyo.
Avid concert-goer and drinker.
Will shop until I drop or run out of cash-whichever comes first.
Owner of one black cat, several volumes of manga and anime, numerous pairs of fuzzy slippers, three real katana and enough stupid opinions on various subjects to last well into the next century.
Hoping to meet Gackt, praying for Hyde to get a divorce, and lusting after a chance to personally count
ALL of Miyavi's tattoos.

Like Hyde, my favorite word seems to be fu-k. The only difference being, I know how to use it. ~_^ I have the natural born ability to make the foulest of truck drivers and sailors blush. If you're deeply offended by the use of such language, I suggest you steer clear. If you can't take the verbal heat, kindly get the fu-k out of my kitchen.

I speak fairly decent Japanese. Though I'm not a personal shopping service, if you're out there and you really want something desperately from Japan, I'll see what I can do. If anyone needs info or help regarding life in Japan or any thing JRock related, drop a line, I'm always willing to help out.

*************************************************
In light of the deluge of emails I've received recently, the following disclaimer now applies:
I WILL NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW YOU TO USE MY ADDRESS TO JOIN DEARS, HYDEIST OR ANY OTHER JROCK FANCLUB.

Do not email me DEMANDING goods and/or services from Japan. The old addage is certainly true. You catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar.

If that's what you're considering emailing me about, then stop typing and move the hell on, because it's not happening. Apologies if this sounded harsh, but if you saw my inbox lately, you'd understand.

I encourage opinions of all kinds, and I'm hard to offend, but if you step out of line and bring unwarranted $hit into my private journal you will be served:

If you're still game, haitte kudasai! Welcome to the sushi roll of chaos that is my humble life.

Ha ha! Check this out! Digital me.

And of course, some serious airplay for some great communities!
