The Spratlys are obviously Philippine territory, because Philippine lawyers have argued time and time again that the nearest country to the Spratlys is the Philippines, and that the Spratlys sits on the Philippine Shelf. Just look at the map. Isn't it just obvious that the Spratlys are part of the Philippines? Now try including it in China's map, it just looks like some giant p3nis sticking out of its guts. It's obviously them trying to grab some tropical islands because it's too cold in China. Try including it in Vietnam's map. It doesn't look good either. The Philippines had presented their argument on the basis of UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Seas) that states that withing some distance from the border of the country, it still has some maritime jurisdiction. Heck that sure displaces the claims of China and Vietnam. Especially China! They just claim they found some chinese pinggan in one of the islands, they then say it's chinese. The Philippines wants the case to be tried in the United Nations Court, but China and Vietnam won't accept the challenge. Maybe they just don't have enough english-speaking lawyers, they fear they just might bore the judge with their stuttering.

In my opinion the islands should be shared between Vietnam,China and the Phillipines since these 3 have the best claims for the islands and they are the only ones jointly agreeing to security of the islands.

The other claimants like Malaysia,Taiwan, Indonesia, Brunei should just let it go, since their claims are weak.

China's claims are weaker than any. China is just a bully out to get ASEAN nations. China's claims, I repeat, are based on ancient plates and saucers found on waters around the islands. Maaaaaaaaaaan, we also got ancient chinese plates and saucers in Japanese shores right? Why dont they try claiming Honshu island instead? It's bigger..

That is why Vietnam need to buit its navy with more destroyer and battleship instead of just a bunch of missle ships.

Vietnam's military expense is only 2.2 billion USD, it's only enough to buy one modernm destoryer. Do you expect Vietnam to spend all its military money on one destoryer? Vietnam is just too poor and have not enough money to modernized its army.

Simple solution= let USA station close to the island or persuade them to support Vietnam's claim.

Vietnam is a oil exporting/producing country. Vietnam could start the UN's "Oil For Gun" program with the US. Don't underestimate us.
