QUOTE (Mid-Night_Sun @ Jan 23 2006, 08:48 PM)
you are in no danger...

the only danger you are in is birds trying to make a nest in your abnormally hairy chest...which btw you like to stroke at night for comfort, because it reminds you of your mom.

I don't know about Chinese but I think Russians don't think too high of Gorbachev as he single-handedly disintegrated the whole USSR empire.

The Answer is Simple:

Norman Bethune.

And maybe John Rabe.

I get asked about him three times a day.
And more when people realize that I'm Canadian.

People love Da Shan too, but they don't harass me about him.
Many people tell me, "Berthune is why China loves Canada."
I guess we've never done anything good since he helped in the war? shrug.gif

To China directly? Not really.

Hey, you should be flattered. Mao Zedong made his eulogy to Bethune required reading.

I agree it must be Bill Clinton because of his AIDS aid to China.

I heard or read about a white doctor that they made statue of.. think maybe he was one of the most helping foreigers through the history?
Anyone know he was?

That white doctor is Norman Bethune. Clinton is very popular, but he's no Norman Bethune.

yup

" Doctor Bethune finally received international recognition as Chairman Mao Zedong of the People's Republic of China published his essay entitled In Memory of Norman Bethune (original Chinese title : 紀念白求恩), which documented the final months of the doctor's life in China. Mao went ahead and made the essay required reading for the entire Chinese population"

The Dalai Lama is associated with Tibetan Independence, which is synonomous with the weakening of China. He is as popular as Chen Shui Ban.
