Thats not my point. My point is that the average Filipino is better of than the average Indonesian, by a good 1,600 dollars more, GDP capita wise.

err.. again Indonesia's GDP is twice the size of Philippines' GDP, hence we are richer than Philippines. But, of course, Philippines GDP is larger than Bangladesh What the??? GDP is divisible by your countries population...So Philippines has a HIGHER GDP that Indonesia....geez tell your government to provide better education... SHOULD I READ THAT FOR YOU AGAIN? MAYBE YOU WILL GET IT THE 2ND TIME.. ill put it in caps this time... PHILIPPINES HAS A HIGHER GDP THAN INDONESIA BY ALMOST $1,000 do you want it another time? DUDE you are so freakin' clueless get it through your HEAD... Check every source on the internet and it will say that Philippines has a higher GDP than Indonesia just check it......find one source that says that Indonesia's GDP is higher than Philippines..... |

C'mon, seriously we're all ASEAN states. Wheres the brotherly love? I have it in my heart I think all ASEAN countries have very high nationalistic sentiments, so ASEAN brotherly love is still weak. Too true Off topic. Sorry. Indonesia and the Philippines are two South-East Asian countries expected to unleash their economic prowess in 2006 given the likelihood of better productivity and fiscal improvement, according to the ANZ Bank. |

That's bcoz Indonesia's population is nearly three times the population of RP, so our larger GDP has got to be divided for much more people, hence our slightly lower GDP per capita. Anyways, good that the Philippines will built that giant shopping mall, I just luv hanging out in these malls. Economically, Indonesia is just a bit slightly better than Philippines. Indonesia has a bigger population because it has a bigger land area.... It's GDP is much bigger than the Philippines because of its land area, more resources contribute to the GDP, but still its GDP per capita is far behind the Philippines... So it's better to say that Philippines is richer than Indonesia. |

Education will definately affect the economy of the two nations. Comparing the education of the two countries, here:
Indonesia Literacy: Definition Field Listing definition: age 15 and over can read and write total population: 87.9% male: 92.5% female: 83.4% (2002 est.) Philippines Literacy: Definition Field Listing definition: age 15 and over can read and write total population: 92.6% male: 92.5% female: 92.7% (2002) +++++++++++++++++++++ Looking at the two sources from the CIA World Factbook, we observe two major differences between the two nations; the Philippines has a higher overall literacy rate with a total literacy rate of 92.6% being literate; whereas Indonesia's total literary rate is 87.9%, which is 4.7% lower than that of the Philippines. As well, Indonesia's female population is at 83.4% literate and its male literacy rate is 92.5%, a drastic 10% difference between the two. Whereas in the Philippines, the female literacy rate is .2% higher than that of the male filipinos. We can conclude that education is better and more nondiscrimatory in the Philippines than that of Indonesia. Indonesia's female literacy rate is almost 10% lower than that of the Philippines. |

World's Ranking on Quality of Life The Economist. Ireland's combination of increasing wealth and traditional values gave it the conditions most likely to make its people happy, the survey found. The survey was prepared for The Economist's "World in 2005" publication, with the remit: "Where will be the best place to live in 2005?" The Economist said: "Ireland wins because it successfully combines the most desirable elements of the new, such as low unemployment and political liberties, with the preservation of certain cosy elements of the old, such as stable family and community life." Sri Lanka wins the prize of the the most improved nation with a jump of five places to 43rd. Elsewhere, the survey found the quality of life in the US has plummeted in the past year. Second only to Luxembourg in last year's survey, it has dropped 11 places to 13th this time round. The impact of war is hard to quantify but even harder is Iraq, which has dropped off the scale, with the compilers citing "lack of information". Despite the reports of China's healthy economic development, it is still in the bottom half of the league in 60th place, thanks in part to its civil liberties' failings. Determinants of quality of life The nine quality-of-life factors, and the indicators used to represent these factors, are: 1. Material wellbeing gdp per person, at ppp in $. LOLZ calm down kokol.. read the beginning of this topic.. we've discussed this before, so my previous explanation stands: If Indonesia's GDP per capita is slightly lower (just over $1000) than Philippines, it is because our population is three times your population. However, this is just some theoretical dividing of total GDP by population with not much use in real world. It is clear that very few Filipinos earn $ 5,100 per year. If we take a closer look into the figures, we can easily conclude that it is NOT true that Filipino is richer than Indonesians. This is because Philippines has 40% poverty rate (people living under $ 1 per day), more than 2.5 times the poverty rate of Indonesia of 15%. Moreover, your Gini coefficient is extremely high (46.6) compared to Indonesia (34.3). That means majority of Filipinos live in extreme poverty while a small minority of oligarchs controlled majority of country's wealth. For the future, Indonesia's economic growth is larger than the Philippines, while our population growth rate is smaller than the Philippines. So, it is certain that Indonesia's GDP per capita will overtake Philippines soon in the future. @ garlandz: The Economist can produce any self-made tables as they please, but you can see millions of Filipinos left the country each year, so your emigration rate is so high (-1.49/1000 population). Meanwhile, there are very few Indonesians who emigrated, our emigration rate is a good 0/1000 population. So, it is obvious the millions of Filipinos who are dying to leave the Philippines would disagree that the country has good quality of life. We can conclude that education is better and more nondiscrimatory in the Philippines than that of Indonesia. Philippines might have a slightly higher literacy rate thanks to the educational system made by the American colonists. Philippines has 95% literacy rate during independence in 1946, all thanks to the Americans. That literacy rate actually slightly dropped by 3% after independence means RP govt need to maintain the system left to them by Americans more vigorously. Meanwhile, Indonesia's literacy rate after independence from the Dutch in 1945 is less than 5%, since the Dutch practically gave no education at all to Indonesians. It is a tribute to Indonesian govt that they succeeded in increasing our literacy rate from 5% to nearly 90% in the 60 years of independence. Our educational system is more successful in spreading literacy compared to the Philippines. |

There is a nice "Spanish-Filipino" Restaurant in Brisbane.. |

No worries, most Indonesians don't really know or care much about Thailand either, since we have such a huge country we are (unfortunately) rather insular. BTW "Mabuhay" means welcome.. so you're saying "Welcome to Republic of Philippines" which is kinda odd This post has been edited by purnomor: Mar 9 2006, 01:53 AM |

Your incompetence in Filipino is rather sad. 'Mabuhay' can mean 'long live' or 'welcome'
I do have filipino family members. And you have a problem with that? |

We, Pinoys and Indonesians started off this thread, we'll manage it ourselves. My relations with the Pinoys is closer than yours. I don't mind Filipinos or Indonesians arguing like hell here, at least we can learn something out of it. But, not some foreigner, whose intention is just create some unnecessary nationalistic flames. So, for you: get out of this chat. |
