Im supose to show sources as to why Philippines is much wealthier than Indonesia, but i guess the peeps right here already gave you the answer..Indonesia ranked 71, we ranked 44..thats so yawningly wide! Going back to the marcoses, Ferdinand Marcos neevr faced his trial but his wife, Imelda, her children and cronies is still facing hundred of cases and the government is winning it slowly but surely..Marcos's grandchildren are all being watched
That's bcoz Indonesia's population is nearly three times the population of RP, so our larger GDP has got to be divided for much more people, hence our slightly lower GDP per capita . Exactly! Philippines is wealthier than Indonesia..if you above statement would be consdired correct then you might as well be wealthier than Singapore, which in fact you are not!...if you still do not understand this basic economic concept ill explain it to you in an intelligence level that you could comprehend.. Think of it this way: In an aquaculture farm somewhere in Asia, there were two ponds ....with one pond much larger than the other one...Let us call the large pond "InDive" and the much smaller pond "Phish"..These Ponds are populated by meaty fishes, let us call this meaty fish "PIPO".....For some reason, these fishES onle eat SNAILS, let us call these Snails "MOOLAH" as they are easy to swallow.. Now Indive pond's total FISH population is 2 times more than the Phish pond's FISH population. Indive pond's Moolah Snails is 3 times more than the Phish pond's Moolah Snails. INDIVE Pond= Total of 230 Pipo Fishes=899 moolah snails PHISH Pond= Total of 86 Pipo Fishes=451 moolah snails This only means: INDIVE fishes have an average of 3.9 snails that they can eat. PHISH fishes have an average of 5.2 snails that they can eat. Now my question is, which pond has the meatier fish? (Indive pond is INDONESIA, Phish pond is PHILIPPINES) QUOTE Economically, Indonesia is just a bit slightly better than Philippines. Hehehe, no its not, far from it...and there is no argument about the my concept of domestic currency againts the US dollar..The more US dollars you have in you local economy, the higher your purchasing power..In fact, the very reason why Rupiah was the best performing currency in Asia (with the Peso coming in second) last year is because of the US dollar exchange rate.. In short, if you local currency is 50,000 againts the US dollar, your currency is as worthless as a play money...and please dont go with the Yen argument again, since it is an indivisible currency like the Rupiah..if Rupiah was 98 againts 1 US dollar and it is an indivisible currency i wouldnt argue with you no more on this because..but the fact is its not..your Rupiah is an indivisible currency worth 9,800 againts 1 US dollar (or 100 US cents, if you still do not understand what im trying to say to you countless of times.) Philippines can be compared more to the level of Thailand, not Indonesia. This post has been edited by Mulawin: Mar 9 2006, 04:34 AM |

Your fish analogy is very amusing, but you seem to miss my reply to kokol's similar counter-argument before, you kinda miss the proverbial train. Let me repost that argument again for ur benefit: LOLZ calm down kokol.. read the beginning of this topic.. we've discussed this before, so my previous explanation stands: If Indonesia's GDP per capita is slightly lower (just over $1000) than Philippines, it is because our population is three times your population. However, this is just some theoretical dividing of total GDP by population with not much use in real world. It is clear that very few Filipinos earn $ 5,100 per year. If we take a closer look into the figures, we can easily conclude that it is NOT true that Filipino is richer than Indonesians. This is because Philippines has 40% poverty rate (people living under $ 1 per day), more than 2.5 times the poverty rate of Indonesia of 15%. Moreover, your Gini coefficient is extremely high (46.6) compared to Indonesia (34.3). That means majority of Filipinos live in extreme poverty while a small minority of oligarchs controlled majority of country's wealth. For the future, Indonesia's economic growth is larger than the Philippines, while our population growth rate is smaller than the Philippines. So, it is certain that Indonesia's GDP per capita will overtake Philippines soon in the future. @ garlandz: The Economist can produce any self-made tables as they please, but you can see millions of Filipinos left the country each year, so your emigration rate is so high (-1.49/1000 population). Meanwhile, there are very few Indonesians who emigrated, our emigration rate is a good 0/1000 population. So, it is obvious the millions of Filipinos who are dying to leave the Philippines would disagree that the country has good quality of life. BTW, abt the currency, it is pretty clear all evidence proved that rupiah is stronger than peso. |

Heheheh, but this all goes back to my "distribution of wealth" in my previous reply...remember the time when i told you that the Filipino poor are poorer than the Indonesian poor? And since our GDP ranking tells you that we are more in level with Thailand than Indonesia, it only means that the Filipino rich is richer than the Indonesian rich...
Would you please study Economics and the concept on "Distribution of Wealth"? I would, but i charge a fee for that... Anyways, this will be my last reply from you..Ive already stated the obvious here, you should thank my Indonesian friend Bohemian for that...obviously this isnt going anywhere..the ranking laready showed you wheres your country's rank and our country's rank, that would have to be the end of our argument so have a nice day and CHILL! ... CLICK HERE (THIS GUY IS NO SINGER OR ARTIST BUT AT LEAST THIS AMATEUR WILL TELL YOU WHAT I MEAN WHEN I ASK YOU TO CHILLL!...) ^

But this goes back again to my "list of 40 richest people in Southeast Asia", which clearly shows that Indonesia's richest person is richer than Philippines' richest people. BTW, Thailand's GDP per capita rate is quite higher than RP's and its poverty rate is one-quarter RP's.. Anyways, thanks for the interesting discussion and the cool music clip, it made my vacant day more lively.. Chill out... |
