These are still in pretty good condition. (IMG:http://www.asiafinest.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/icon_smile.gif)
http://www.galleryvietnam.com/antiques/scr...me-antique.html QUOTE Religious instruction and spiritual practices are a fundamental part of the lives of people in Viet Nam. Along with the practices of Eastern religion such as Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, many Vietnamese also pay homage to their ancestors. Years ago, these holy images were used as traditional practices. They provided a forum for teaching, poetry, short stories, spiritual guidance, morals and enlightenments. They were adorned in people's homes, village temples and pagodas. These artifacts were hand painted on paper scrolls, some dating back to 500+ years. These scrolls (which are no longer created in Viet Nam) are treasured not only for their religious and cultural themes, but also as inspirational works of art. There's a lot more on the link above. Here's a few of them from each century. c.1600 (IMG:http://www.galleryvietnam.com/antiques/scrolls/images/scroll_001.jpg) c.1700 (IMG:http://www.galleryvietnam.com/antiques/scrolls/images/scroll_104.jpg) c.1800 (IMG:http://www.galleryvietnam.com/antiques/scrolls/images/scroll_081.jpg) c.1900 (IMG:http://www.galleryvietnam.com/antiques/scrolls/images/scroll_080.jpg) Before anyone start. Yes, these were produced in Viet Nam and yes, the art style is borrowed from China and India. Just thought I'd share. This post has been edited by drunk_on_tea: Apr 23 2004, 08:43 PM |

(IMG:http://www.galleryvietnam.com/antiques/furniture/images/fur_005.jpg) Supernovasp, that's what the title was in the website. Fine, I'll change it to "old". This post has been edited by drunk_on_tea: Apr 23 2004, 08:43 PM |

What would constitute as ancient then, 1, 000 years? The introduction already stated these works were produced +500 years ago, these are only a few samples. But yeah I changed it because ancient might be stretching it a bit.
You should check it out then DragonMP! I saw one episode on "The Apprentice" when they had an art gallery show and this Vietnam Art Gallery was rented for one of the team. It's quite famous. This post has been edited by drunk_on_tea: Apr 23 2004, 08:48 PM |
