RM63 Million Spent To Help Needy Students
Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein. Pix: Bernama KUALA PILAH, March 11 (Bernama) -- A total of RM63.1 million of the RM200 million allocated by the government for the Poor Students Trust Fund (KWAPM) this year has been spent to help 315,551 students in 5,994 schools, Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said. "Each of the students received between RM200 and RM300 annually to buy uniforms and school stationery and to pay school and examination fees," he said in a statement issued to reporters after launching Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Lebar's centennial celebration here Saturday. Hishammuddin said poor parents could also apply for general aid of between RM30 and RM40 a month to defray their children's schooling expenses in primary and secondary schools. "For those who are eligible but not in the ministry's list, we hope their people's representatives or political leaders can help to forward their names to us for consideration based on the conditions," he said. Among the conditions are that they must be citizens and the parents' combined monthly income must not exceed RM530 in the peninsula, RM585 in Sarawak and RM685 in Labuan and Sabah. Hishammuddin also asked all parties to refrain from finger-pointing in the death of Mohamed Syazwan Zawawi Malek, 14, yesterday after 10 days in a coma at the Seremban Hospital following a fall through the ceiling of a toilet at his school hostel in Port d!ckson on March 1. "My ministry has formed a committee chaired by Datuk Noh Omar (Deputy Education Minister) to investigate complaints by the boy's family about his death," he said. Police had ruled out foul play in the boy's death. -- BERNAMA Is it reasonable that the patents must earn a combined income of RM530 to get welfare ?? Many Malaysians who earn RM1000 are already suffering under the current lifestyle....... they should increase the combine income limit to RM700-RM2000...if not...I have no respect for Hishamuddin. The venerable Onn Jaafar should sometimes come out of his grave and give his grandson a slap or two. |

Kais pagi makan pagi.. But for those who live in big ciities, combination of income less than RM2000 should be eligible for the parents.. |

Actually, increased that to atleast RM 850 & below.
As for Hishamuddin, yes, he deserved not a slap or two, but perhaps also a kick on his backside. Sheesssh, coming from powerful political dynasty, he certainly a pale imitation of his dad & granddad. |
