He isn't a celebrity. He was a Chinese explorer. We know so little about him in the West. I didn't find out about him until about 5 years ago in Malacca. There is a gold store that has a huge mural with his likeness:
 Cheng Ho (Zheng He) He was Chinese and born in 1371 in Kunyang, a town in southwest Yunnan Province. Here are some of the places he travelled:  More Information Princess Hang Li Po Again we know nothing about her in the West. I saw the temple build in honour of this Chinese princess and Bukit Cina where the hundreds of servants she brought with her from China were buried. Princess Hang Li Poh married Sultan Mansur Syah. Bukit Cina, was a a gift from the sultan to Princess Hang Li Poh and her entourage. " According to Malay Annals (Sejarah Melayu), the sultan dispatched Tun Perpatih Putih as his envoy to Ming (China) and carried a letter to the Emperor, it was mentioned that Hang Liu was sent to Malacca to be the bride of the Sultan. Li Po came to Malacca along with 500 other female attendants, many attendants later married officials serving Mansur Shah as Li Po married the sultan after she accepted the conversion to Islam. After their marriage, the sultan built a palace for Li Po and her attendants were given a permanent home at Bukit Cina which serves as a cemetery for the local Chinese. Princess Li Po became known as Hang Li Po when she was awarded the honorific "Hang" by the sultan of Melaka." Source I think that it is a disgrace that while Western textbooks focus so much on European explorers and royalty, there is hardly any information about Asians or Africans who have made their mark on history.
