MUMBAI, India (CNN) -- At least 70 people have been killed in seven explosions on crowded rush-hour commuter trains in the Indian financial capital of Mumbai, police said. More than 100 people were injured in the blasts, which took place between 6:20 and 7 p.m. (1250 and 1330 GMT) when the trains were packed with commuters making their way home. A correspondent for CNN's sister network, CNN-IBN, reported seeing 15 bodies at the Matunga train station in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. Video from one station showed people with blood on them being treated, other commuters carrying victims and some people lying motionless near train tracks At least one train was split in half by the explosion. The Western Railway system -- used by 4.5 million people daily -- was shut down and Mumbai's subway system was put on high alert after the blasts in the city's western suburbs. Police in the capital of New Delhi also heightened security. There was no claim of responsibility but the blasts took place in quick succession -- a tactic used by Kashmiri militants who have often targeted Indian cities. Airports across India were also put on high alert, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called an emergency meeting of his ministers after the explosions. The blasts hit trains or platforms at the Khar, Mahim, Matunga, Jogeshwari, Borivili and Bhayander stations, in that order. Another hit a train between the Khar and Santa Cruz stations, a police official told CNN-IBN. One CNN-IBN correspondent who was on a train hit by an explosion said the train was just leaving the station when the blast occurred. Several people jumped from the train and were killed when they were hit by the train. "Limbs (are) lying everywhere, bodies (were) cleared from the tracks by local business owners who rushed from their shops," the correspondent said. On March 7, 14 people were killed in attacks on a temple and a rail station in Varansi. On March 12, 1993, more than 250 people were killed in Mumbai when 13 bombs exploded in several locations in the city. The city's commuter rail network is among the most crowded in the world. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/07/1...asts/index.html |

^^ Indeed very sad news...It wasn't intimated yet, but i think the Indian government will blame pakistan or kashmiri "freedom fighters" like they usually do. They will blame ISI to divert attention from the failed launches of Agni and a satelltie recently...I think they should look first at Narendra Modi, RSS and others like Shivsena. And why do they always forget about the dozens of freedom fighters and movements in India other than Kashmir ??? Anyways I think the current government is one of the most useless in handling terrorism.

Yeah I understand you bro, but the problem is, that these blasts were carried out because of politics. QUOTE Update: 7 bombs in multiple locations, over 100 dead. Terrosits from Kashmir funded by Dawood Ibraham suspected. Man nabbed with explosives; Delhi on high alert
New Delhi: A suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist has been arrested with explosives and a large amount in cash in Delhi, even as the national capital was put on high security alert following serial blasts in Mumbai Tuesday evening. Ajaz Hussain, 43, was arrested near the NBCC Building in the Lodhi Colony area in the centre of the capital Monday, police said Tuesday. An amount of Rs.4.9 million and 2.05 km RDX were recovered from him, officials said. "The militant was acting as a carrier for his organisation and the main objective of his Delhi visit was to collect money through 'hawala' (money laundering) channels and deliver it personally to commanders in Jammu and Kashmir," said a senior official of Special Cell. The officials said Hussain was staying in Jungpura area of south Delhi from where he was also running his business of selling Kashmiri shawls. "He had been staying in the capital since January," said the official. "Hussain was reporting to one Mukhtyar Ahmed in Pakistan and had delivered more than Rs.30 million of hawala money to several operatives in Kashmir," he said. However, he clarified that the arrest in Delhi had nothing to do with the blasts in Mumbai's suburban trains that left at least 100 people dead. "There is no connection between Hussain and the serial blasts in Mumbai," the official said, adding that further investigations were on to get the details of his activities. Meanwhile, the serial bombings in Mumbai put security agencies on high alert in the national capital. "We had received general alert from the intelligence agencies but there is no specific information about any possible attack in the capital," said Dependra Pathak, additional commissioner of police. "We are on high alert and extra forces have been deployed at all public places in the capital," said Pathak. He said police contingents had been deployed at shrines and vital installations in the capital. Special alert was sounded at the domestic and international airports; railway stations. Additional armed guard personnel were posted at the metro stations. "We have deployed spotters at railway stations and interstate bus terminals to identify suspicious characters," said a senior official of the special cell. The official added that dog squads were deployed at railways stations and busy market places. "We have also alerted the bomb disposal squad which is on stand by," said the official. Sounds like Pakistan backed kashmiri militants are major suspects ATM, blaming everything on victim nation is gettin typical of terrorist sympathizers. Denial is one way to deal with your troubles. |
