Correct me if I'm wrong, the great Manny Pacquiao is originally from Cebu? Do people there have a distinct look then other Filipinos from other islands? I used to work with a Filipino lady from Cebu, and I thought she was Vietnamese or even Chinese until she told me she was Filipino. Is it common for people there to look like her? |

That's what I thought to, but this woman had a Southern Mongoloid look that seemed a bit uncommon. And I worked with quite a few Filipinos that had this Southern look. |

Pacquiao is from General Santos in Mindanao, I think his promoters are based in Cebu. He can speak Cebuano because most of Visayas and Mindanao can speak it. Cebu itself is kinda like a Chinatown - but very subtle. Plenty of Chinese in Cebu, I've also met some Viets. Filipinos generally look the same - of the Malay race. But, in places like Cebu, and Manila, where there are tall buildings - peoples skin tend to be lighter, also this is where the Chinese, or other minorities live. Zamboanga too has plenty of Chinese. Cebuanos don't want to take the glory if it is not due. But, his promoters and people, I believe, are based in Cebu. |

I dont think thats correct--Ive been to Bohol plenty of times, and have been to Cebu at least 4 times--the people look particularly Filipino--malay in beauty. Whenever I go to southern Thailand and see the people there---it automatically reminds me of my friends in Bohol (Tagbilaran City) and Panglao district. Cebuanos look totally identical to Boholanos---their phenotype is particularly southern monglid--not much difference with their Malay brothers of Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and the Malays of southern Thailand.
I know how mexicans look like--and they dont look like filipinos at all. As well---Its very incorrect to label the true Filipino malays with Mexican natives because they totally look DIFFERENT. Mexicans have their own latin--native american beauty, which is by no way comparable to the Malays in Cebu, Bohol {the philippines}. Thats such an off statement--and very demeaning and stereotypical in phenotype. Not only are the two people, the Malay Filipinos, and the Native Mexicans, foreign from one another, but are also genetopically different. The native mexicans are decendents of the groups of nomads crossing the bering straight --and if theyre closer relatives would be the fare eastern russians of kamchatkya, and siberia. Malays--are from southern south east asia--geographically and genetically different. Dont let ignorance be a factor, anak sa bisaya. Ug bisaya ka--di man jud ka mo ingun ana. Ako galing, di man ko bisaya ug di man ko pilipino--piro daghang man ko respeto para ninyo--ug sa ang tao sa bisaya. Ayaw pag ing ana. |

We are a different race entirely, namely MALAY. However, there are many mongoloid Chinese in CEbu. |

@Tunay na tao (EJAY)..EHEM (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sure.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sure.gif)
Firt of all, I know about Filipinos because I have a lot of filipino friends, and have filipino cousins--so im pretty much exposed to the people, culture, history etc. You're just a troll who doesnt even know your own history and ethnocentric composition. The Philippines is Malay. Its people and politicians pride themselves as the a 'Christian Malay Nation.' Additionally, the Hero of the Philippines, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, is even claimed to referred to the Philippines as the 'Pride of the Malay Race'. As well, Ive been to the Visayans so many times for vacation--and we own a house in Bohol--I think I would know. I lived/stayed in the area for a good amount of time. Be universal. Oh yea..what does me being Thai have to do anything with 'knowing' about the Philippines. Thailand and the Philippines are ASEAN member sates--we have many similarities--and have been historical friends. Open your mind, Yet mae. Heres a quote from a source: The Philippine Embassy to Australia QUOTE The Filipino People The Filipino is basically of Malay stock with a sprinkling of Chinese, American, Spanish and Arab blood. From a long history of Western colonial rule, interspersed with visits of merchants and traders, evolved a people of unique blend of east and west, both in appearance and culture. The Filipinos are divided geographically and culturally into regions and each regional group is recognizable by distinct traits and dialects. Tribal communities can be found scattered across the archipelago. The most important numerically are the Visayans, who live primarily in the central portion of the archipelago and the Tagalogs, who live primarily in central Luzon. The Moslem groups live mainly in the southern portion of the archipelago -- particularly in western Mindanao, the Sulu Archipelago, and southern Palawan island. The non-Malay groups are composed of people of Spanish and Chinese descent. Religion Most of the people belong to the Roman Catholic religion (about 84%). At least 10% are Protestants or members of other Christian denominations, including the Philippine Independent Church, or Aglipayans and the rest are Muslims. Language It is estimated that there are 111 linguistic groups or dialects spoken in the country. The national language is Filipino, which is based on Tagalog. Both Filipino and English are being used for official communication and instruction. Demographics Population: 86,241,697 (July 2004 est.)
