QUOTE(LaoShare @ Aug 26 2006, 09:03 PM) Any good examples in the past? Chinese Americans help to build the rail road in the West Coast of the United States. Richard Nixon visited China in the 1970s and had Dim Sum with Zhou En Lai. Cheers to USA and China friendship. |

Many Americans will visit Beijing in 2008 for the Olympics and spend money to stimulate the Chinese economy.
Cheers to China and USA friendship. |

Most of China top universities were found by Americans and Chinese working together; closely related with many parents of AF forumers. Americans are not all that bad. Cheers to China and USA friendship. It is kind of childish that we ask the Americans to invest and help build up China, so they did. And now we get ready for the Olympics and we intent to invite them to spend money and visit us and then we tell them, Hay, you MF Americans, take a good last look at this is the great country that you guys help to build and now go home and wait. We are not going to be Mickey-mouse like the Arabs, we are going to sent you guys a big thank you ...... ……Wholesale nukes! This post has been edited by LaoShare: Aug 27 2006, 05:31 AM |

Okay, just some thoughts on this post for what it's worth. Thank you SoCal, for bringing this up.
First and foremost, I absolutely believe that nothing can make a better contribution to the world than a secure, stable and fond USA-China alliance - if such a thing can ever indeed be brought about to happen. China and US, together, can be a stable rock and foundation that the world has never seen before. Secondly, China and America's culture and government are so different that such an alliance will be very difficult to forge, if not impossible. Beijing is pragmatic to the core, whereas America is based on moralism of some kind or the other. (This has nothing to do with liberalism or conservatism; both parties are based on moralism in America, just different kinds.) Thirdly, history shows that when there are two major superpowers in any environment, an alliance is nearly impossible. Two rivals must always be rivals. They must always compete and jostle with each other; they can't be friends in any sense. That's just the way things are. China and USA, most likely, will continue to try to outmanuever each other. They will shake hands, while trying to pick each other's pocket with the other hand. They will continue to steal each other's intelligence secrets and still try to play off allies against another. There just isn't.......trust. Two major powers can't have much trust. |

QUOTE(SoCal @ Aug 27 2006, 07:12 AM) LaoShare You are funny. I don't meant to be funny, just disturb that some of us here feel so negative with the people that have been helping us. Who are we to judge the American so negatively? What right do we have? If they are really down, I think may be it is our turn to help so the world will still be a place for the have and have not. Hatred cause all to suffer, no one benefit at the end. We need to listen to each other and show some humility because other countries can teach us. |

However, there still should have some basic respect between "two potential bullies" or superpowers. |

As people of those two countries, we need to show humility and act like greater countries that have compassion and humanity at heart. We already know that two two countries are powerful so we don't need to show arrogance. I like your analysis. |

That's a great way to put it SoCal. I'm planning on going into international politics when I graduate. If, before I die, I can get to see the Chinese and the Americans, and their children, working hand in hand for a better world, I'll consider my life well spent. |
