I hear you have to "believe" in Eastern Medicine and it's philosophies in order for it to really work (Accupuncture, etc.).
I find Eastern more interesting, though I just use Western liquid medicine when I'm sick. I'd try Eastern, but only if all Western has failed because some Eastern stuff is odd. Let me add that I'm the LARGEST HATER OF THE WEST ON THIS SITE. Read some of my posts and you will see. Perhaps their vile tasting medicine is their best creation. |

Depends on what ailments you have.
Western Medicine is much more advanced, whereas there hasn't been many advancements for Eastern medicine so even if your reject eastern medicine, you're not necessarily rejecting your roots. You just want to get well sooner. lol. This post has been edited by cherry_tree: Aug 31 2006, 05:30 PM |

I tried acupuncture once, and it didn't work
I dunno, when you are sick having flu or something it seems only wester medicine works. However if you have long term illness, like continuous coughing, unexplained headaches..etc. then eastern medicine seem to be the cure. My father was coughing for like 2 years non-stop after he had a flu. He was worred that he might have had some wierd lung problem, so he went to a doctor, the doctor took x-rays and stuff for his lungs and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Then my father went to this chinese medicine place and they gave him some herbal stuff. He boiled the herbal stuff and drank it, and after drinking it for two months his coughing problem was gone... I think western medicine can provide cure to diseases which are immdediate. But if you have diseases/illness that last for a long period of time, and western medicine can't cure it then eastern medicine can be of help... although I wonder why acupuncture didn't work on me |

A friend of mine had acupuncture and said he went out feeling worse than he did when he went in.
Another guy I know had it and felt much better, he continued to get it done...I guess it works for some, and not for others. |

A lot of Eastern medicine does work. But a hell lot of it doesn't. We Chinese don't have anything that could cure cancer, but modern medicine does.

I think it's safe to say Western medicine is far superior than traditional Eastern medicine simply because Westerners were the first to grasp microbiology:

Western... because of the research and survey part of it not to say that Eastern medicine don't but some of it is based on tales. Like who's ever conducted a research on studying the effects of eating a tiger's penis... !! (Just one extreeeeme example.)

Debate and discuss sometimes yes, sometimes no. my mom has terrible leg problems since she broke it 45 years ago...... its never going to get better but she alternates. she says when the western stops being effective she moves to eastern (mostly chinese) and when that starts to falter is back to western...... |

Some of the western beliefs are so bull$hit though.
Like "eating chocolate doesnt cause pimples". Thats the biggest balooney ever, I dont know anything about their research, but I have had 5 years experience when I used to have pimples back then. Everytime I ate chocolate = pimples. No chocolate eating = less/no pimples. |

I think there is more than 1 road to any destination. Because Eastern may be different doesn't make it less valid.
Example : You go to the Doctor for back pain. He has 3 options. 1. Muscle relaxers, damn didn't work 2. Physical theropy. Damn still didn't work 3. The knife. Damn no I am really fudged up. Before I do option #3 I'll try a chirpracter. Go to a chiropracter. He does some adjustments you feel somewhat better. Now eastern medicine and I admit I am some what ill imformed but at least eastern medicine is offering other options than just drugs, excercise and the knife. |

QUOTE(Ino @ Sep 3 2006, 08:58 AM) do NOT go to a chiropracter. bunch of crooks who dont know jack $hit. ahhhhhh and thus the debate continues. I would never use a back cracker for the flu. For the spine? I have gotten relief an MD couldnt give me. Thats not to say all MD's and spinal specialists suck. Just saying I was a hurting unit. The pills didnt work, the physical theropy actually made it feel worse sometimes. Then the knife option was presented. Like you I was whoa hell with those 4 year degree back crackers. My parents were against them and had taught me well. My brother however said go just 1 time. So by this point everything hurt walking, sitting etc. Anyone who has ever hurt their back understands. After 1 visit felt 50% better after 3 felt rightous. A good back cracker doesnt believe in months and months of adjustments. The one I see adjusts you says call me in a week. If its still sore come back. 1 big difference between the 2 disiplines. Chiropracters actually spend a few minutes of time with their patients. Its not the assembly line atmosphere of the doctors office we see today. I am not telling anyone chiropracters are the way to go. Meerly suggesting they are an option. There has to be a reason why the establishment hates them. LOL must mean they feel threatened. Can anyone find the rate of law suits against DR.'s and against Chiropracters? I would love to see who gets sued most and who looses most. I honestly don't know but its an interesting question. |

Generally if one doesn't work, it wouldn't hurt to try the other.
Always remember though, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. |
