This is true, Malays are so religious compared to the Javanese, Betawi, Minang, Makassarese etc2. You can just see this difference by looking at the girls. In Jakarta you can see girls wearing sexy outfits, but if you ask their religion, they'll say Islam. Whereas almost all Malay girls would wear Jilbab in Malaysia (don't know so much bout in Sumatra). Indonesia is also not an Moslem country, even if it has the most Moslem population in the world.

Do Malays also practice those believes out of the religion? My family for example go to klenteng to seek advice (not dukun, cuz they suck), do selamatan, taught me as a kid to always finish my food, because if not godess Sri will cry, eat kue pandan while facing east when we moved to another house for the first time, claim that they have powers (many types), open up their wallets when someone died (so that it brings fortune), claim to have guardians, etc2. Come to think of it, my family is pretty weird. But if you ask their religion, they'll say Islam.

Back to the topic, in general, I think Indonesians would not mind.
