I think he's the greatest hero in modern Vietnam history. To me, he's way better than Ho Chi Minh. He's like the vietnamese Sun Yat Sen to me (although he wasn't some what a leader).

Phan Boi Chau was the Vietnamese version of Sun Yat Sen. Too bad Ho sold him out and revealed his whereabout to the French.

Phan Boi Chau was a great hero. He had a second class education with the French and was a scholar.

He decided to use his knowledge to fight against the French instead of doing their duties.

Wasn't he the one who started "Phong Trào Đông Du", sending Viet patriots to eastern countries like China and Japan to study and find way to fight the French ?

huh? comparing people like that is too funky man (you're a he right?)

anyways Phan Boi Chau and Sun Yat Sen live during the same era - so anyone could say that Sun Yat Sen is the Chinese version of Phan Boi Chau - though I personally wouldn't say that. Phan Boi Chau is Phan Boi Chau and no one else.

Phan Boi Chau: born 1867 - died 1940 - lifespan: 73
Sun Yat Sen: born 1866 - died 1925 - lifespan: 59

Phan Boi Chau greater than Ho Chi Minh ? Good Lord, Phan Boi Chau showed how great of a leader he was by not being able to rally or persuade any Vietnamese to rise up against the French while Ho Chi Minh was able to do so with millions of people who took up arm and ready to die for Vietnam against the French. People listened to Ho Chi Minh but no one bother with Phan Boi Chau; that's how you separate someone with great leadership skills with those who have not

You guys will never be able to prove to the point where no one can argue against you even though I very much agree with this. Argue with what I said below and these things fall into places.

Bro, it was all politics. China never intended to win that war and Vietnam knew it because it never needed any support from other sources. The whole thing was designed to rid of some of the real patriots who could endanger both the govts and to divert attention from the govts.

Remember, communism is corrupt and stupid and they will do anything to hold on power.
I know many of you will find this hard to swallow. However, all of what I say is hard to swalllow; still no one could agrue it. For example, 3 lashes and Ho Ho VCs are the products of USA war on Viets. Pol Pot regime was also a setup, so is this.

Phan Boi Chau wanted to get Indochina Independence through democratic movement in the same way like how Indonesians got independence from the Dutch with the "Indonesian union" intact. However, the French were far more aggressive in colonial activities in comparing to the Dutch merchants so Ho Chi Minh's way was proven more practical in dealing with the French. Btw, are we talking about their personalities or achievements?
