Tank 1, taxi 0 in apparent protest
![]() VS A Bangkok taxi driver apparently unhappy with the military coup rammed his cab into a tank near the Royal Plaza this morning. Before he made his kamikaze run, the unidentified driver daubed his taxi with huge graffiti that said "Ruining the country" and "Die for the country". Presumably, he was protesting the military takeover. Taxi drivers were a demographic strongly cultivated by ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, and he was generally popular among the cabbies. In the actual encounter, the taxi was destroyed in the collision, the tank and its soldiers were unharmed. "He was probably drunk or half asleep. We found no weapon or bomb in his car," Pol Maj Gen Ekapol Tawichwongchaikul told tje Reuters new agency. Tanks have been in place at Royal Plaza which is just down the street from parliament since Thai military officers deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on September 19. The tanks have been popular with the public with people lining up to have their pictures taken with them and soldiers. Shortly after the incident, the number of soldiers in the area was increased while tanks were moved away some 20 metres from the main road. The driver, Nuamthong Praiwan, 60, is a native of Bangkok's suburban Nonthaburi province He received injuries and was sent to a government-run hospital for treatment. Police initially charged the taxi driver with reckless driving and causing damage to government property. Meanwhile, a physician at the hospital said that Mr. Nuamthong's condition was no longer critical but that he still needed to be under the care of doctors as he suffered a swollen left eye, a broken chin and three broken ribs. The doctor said blood tests would be made to determine whether Mr. Nuamthong had consumed alcohol before the incident took place. ===================================================================== Wish this drunk guys not inspire the Thaksin supporter already start to strike back. many of the cab and motorcycle driver in BKK are the main Thaksin supporter ,becareful on talking politic on the cab This post has been edited by AEROFORCE1: Oct 6 2006, 11:28 PM |

You should have 1 million votes. Your class should rule Thailand because you're very clever. Good bye democrecy. It's dead now. I'm very stupid because I voted for Thasksin and I anti the coup. I know now why we are underdeveloped. Because the elilte clase like you do not respect the poor. The poor people should have no right to vote because they voted for Thaksin who help them and make their life better. They should support the elite class and let them suck their blood and rich. Khun AEROFORCE1 You are the greate man, my lord. Our country still in the 1800 AD. Long live AEROFORCE1 my lord. |

Anyone with half a brain knows that this incident was possibly plotted and popularized by Thaksin supporters together with ITV channel. Regardless of how we all feel sorry for what happened to the old man, the fact remains in that it was a tragic loss for nothing. All the old taxi driver was saying in his death note is that he didn't like the coup. But he failed to make a clear statement as to why he didn't like them. In other words, he killed himself for the sake of his own false belief. And I don't even think this can be considered a matyr because ex-prime minister Thaksin corruptive evidences are emerging day by day.
And there are many people who are using the old man's death as a reason to cloak themselves pretending that they are pro-democracy but behind the beautiful mask, they are basically relatives of Thaksin senetors. This is the most disgusting of all. |
