I came across a Taiwanese message board a while ago. Some Taiwanese forumers joke about IDF. They say IDF is a short hand for I Don't Fly.

Well, you can thank president Bush for suspending the C/D Falcon sales. And the Europeans certainly won't sell anymore of their toys to Taiwan.
Even with the upgrades, the ROC is going to lose its edge in air power (if it hasn't already). |

If it hasn't, its just a matter of time. The only way ROC could even win in a arms race with PRC is if PRC someday disapeared into thin air and little angels came down from heaven and took over. |

In terms of aerobatics performance, IDF is not too bad. However what really is limiting IDF's performance is the engine. Without sufficient engine thrust a fighter cannot perform proper aerobatic maneuvars even if its frame and control surfaces are designed to do so.
If I remember correctly, the older generation of IDF has cruise speed of Mach 1.2, and during combat (dog fight) its flies at Mach 0.8. Which is way below the normal combat speed of a fighter. Most fighters fly in the transonic regions (Mach 0.9~1.2) during dog fights. Some of the most famous fighters such as F-18, Mig-29, F-15 D strike Eagle, F-14 Tomcat or J-10 fly at about Mach 1.1~1.2 during dog fights, so you can see the differences. I hope these upgraded fighters have new engines. This post has been edited by Darth Lin: Oct 13 2006, 01:59 AM |

Taiwan seriously needs new weapons, I mean fu-k, we've got 200+ F-16s yet can barely fit 2 AMRAAMs for each plane...we need to kill those god damn bandits...

Hmm I don't like the colour. Looks a bit too dark, may stick out like a sore thumb in the sky.
