Russia will not attack the US. If the US attacks Russia (not very likely, but we do know if something happens it's always the US attacking someone else), then China is obliged by SCO to assist Russia. This can involve sending weapons, supplies, air defence troops, or fighter patrols. If it gets very hot (the US is likely to raise tensions by harassing China's borders), China may need to neutralize US bases in Asia.

@ Freezingpoint:

Unlike Imperial Britain and Kaiser Germany example, Imperial Britain never help industrialize Kaiser Germany as a counter-weight to a joint mutual geopolitical 'threat.'

The U.S. basically de-recognized ROC, recognized PRC, establish MFN trade relations PRC, in order to industrialize China as a counter-weight against Soviet Union, and to apply pressure to Soviet Union's south-eastern flank, employing the "divide & conquer" strategy by exploiting the Sino-Soviet split...

Also, U.S. has basically de-recognized Japan as the Capitalist Center of Asia, and has recognized China as the new center of Asia, so if anything, U.S. can live happily in her Western hemisphere, and U.S. is perfectly happy with China reigning by herself in a multi-polar Asia, and if she wants to be hegemon of the East, so be it, so long as China doesn't enter America's Western hemisphere, I'm pretty sure ther will be no conflict like continental Europe circa Imperial Britain/Kaiser Germany, which have a "high violence proximity" variable using Deundey terminology (Geopolitical scientist)...

-------------------

My opinion of the SCO:

It's just Russia, pre-emptively kow-towing to future Chinese supremacy, to meek out a meager existence as a "Great power," by pragmatically joining hands with China (rising Superpower)...to establish a joint sphere of influence with China in the Central Asian republics, letting China be the "leader," while secretly manueving the organization to an anti-NATO stance which would allow Russia to take the "anti-NATO military" leadership, with China being the financial "heft" behind the plan, but Russia ultimately wants geopolitical determination and leadership...

Russia is using the SCO and China to buy time, prop herself up, so she herself can exercise leadership. Unfortunately for Russia, Russia doesn't come into the U.S.-China strategic calculus, and is pretty much irrelevant.

Russia is using the SCO to establish a joint sphere of influence in Central Asia with China in order to buy time so she can lead the SCO into an "anti-US/NATO" crusade once more to "regain former Superpower glory," because she sees present Chinese economic achievements translating into future political Chinese supremacy, so she wants to pragmatically forge an "anti-US" encirclement alliance and piggy back China's political "heft" until Russia again is self-satisfactory and self-capable again to lead and outpace the Chinese again in her former Soviet "backyard" (aka Central Asia)... because fundamentally, Chinese interests on Eurasia (as a Rimland/Inner Crescent state) is at odds with the Heartland (Russia) for domination of the world's natural water ways, ocean sea lanes, and land natural resources.

Basically, why would Russia sacrifice territory to China in order to resolve the Sino-Russian border dispute?

Because the Sino-Soviet border skirmishes which create the Sino-Soviet Split was the partial reason why Soviet Union collapsed 10 years later! China is that important, that Russia is willing to be "co-equal" partners once more in an organization with a name of a Chinese city that is yet an international financial center, much less a regional like HK, Singapore, Tokyo, or even tiny Seoul! Now that's pre-emptively kow-towing to Chinese supremacy, because Shanghai will make NYC look like a piece of $hit in the future. Russians know thiat. That's why they are using China, and China doesn't even give a siht about Russia beyond natural resources and a political tool to attack U.S. once in a while, but that gets old when you have trillions of dollars on the line, can't be stupid and risk nuclear war over anything.

China will not get involved with Pakistan's problems
North Korea is a little spoiled brat that China is sick of
Iran is not an ally
The rest of the options are a joke

Maybe I'm looking into the historical context too much but, the Russians have a tendency of joining a war when it is favorable for them. So must likely, Russia would only be China's ally to their benefit. I don't see why China needs an alliance anyway.

-Russia
-Myanmar
-Burma
-Laos
-N. Korea

Evo Morales, Mugabe, and Hugo Chavez are very pro-China. China also initiated S. Africa into the BRIC alliance, now it's called BRICSA.

In terms of friendship, cultural ties, and economic cooperation, Singapore is China's BFF. Singaporeans are one of the few people who can enter China without a Visa.
