QUOTE(KHANartist @ Nov 6 2006, 03:27 AM) I`m blue collar and proud of it. Blue collar can be unskilled, low paid labour and highly skilled, highly paid tradespeople that require 4 year apprenticeships and certification. I love being a mastercraftsman, I couldn`t imagine how boring working in an office must be. technical skills and craftmanship seems to be highly valued over there here its like trash as the government wants more brains rather than hands |

well i'm not blue collar...yet. work in help desk, sitting in the office hours on ends helping people with their computer problems for hours on end. definitely not the life i want to lead.
good news is, i'm going to go to school to be a mechanic and hopefully get into autobody fabrication also |

I guess I am these days. I'd take an office job any day of the week. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do, but I hate it too. On any given day, I probably exert more energy than 10 average Americans combined. Life is hard at the Ranger Battalion.

Nothing wrong with blue collar......they work (and work hard) for every dollar you earn. They work long hours that require physical labor. They may not get all the glory and respect they deserve, but they're undoubtly a necessity.

I'm a Journeyman Electrician, with an associates in electrical engineering. Been getting a lot of job offers from the powerplant to fix generators. Some private energy company was going to start me off at 32/hr, but I still have 1 1/2 year left in the service

i was just wondering:
nowadays, do people pursue majors because of interest/passion of just for the potential money to be earned? |

My dad's been an auto mechanic for a while. He got his start working on air crafts but the company laid him off when I was very young. My brother is at BMW as an auto mechanic.
BF got his start in HVAC and now owns his own company...couldn't be more proud of him. I come from a military family so hard work, sweat and dedication is highly appreciated no matter what the profession. As long as you're willing and have the drive. I never look down on any blue collar guys...with my family's background I actually have a lot of respect for em...besides that...I'll be married to someone that loves to work with his hands...is a man's man (in my opinion-if that counts) and is still raking in as much money as any executive. Besides that....he doesn't have the student loan payments that I have to put up with after getting my bachelors. Thank god I work for a school where I can get my master's for free!!! |
