Not sure how the story will turn out. Helpful criticisms will be nice.
Prologue: She was born without a belly button. That was no big deal considering that she has a man- made one. The doctors just sew one on her at birth, a perfect round hole on the middle of her stomach. Her mother called her Button. She didn't look like a button, wasn't cute as a button. She pictured picking at her mother's outtie belly button., her mother who neatly laid in front of her. She would pick and pick at it until it would start to bleed and keep at it until those blood form scabs, until her mother's belly button was nothing more than a pile of bloody crust flakes. Madison felt the strong urge to do so, to pull apart her mother's deceiving clothes, the ultra conservative pin- striped suit that her mother would have never been caught wearing, and to pick at the belly button. But Madison couldn't do anything but look, to look at her mother laying there in the casket. Her mother looked unreal, porcelain. Her face was thickly covered with make up, covering the every imperfection that she had, the dark under eye circles, the baggy eyes, the blemishes, and so on. Madison made a mental note to personally write a thank you note to the make up artist. "Come on," Madison's brother Jason whispered. He clasped her hand and gently pulled her to him, to the neat rows of fold out chairs. Her heart went out to him; she could sense the strain he was having, to be calm when he was most turbulant. When they were seated, she let out a small shudder in spite of the warm June weather and he promptly drew her into him, wrapping his long arms around her. "Are you okay?" he asked her. She nodded at him, but his eyes were too glazed over to notice. Everything seemed surreal but she was fine. "Are you?" she whispered but he didn't respond back. Tom, who was seated behind her, was crying. Horrible gasping noises. Madison whipped her head around and shot him a dirty look. He promptly looked towards the ground. He didn't deserve to cry. She was the daughter and she wasn't even crying. The only person who ever loved her mother was Jason and he wasn't crying, as hard as that was for him. So why should Tom make light of the situation with his horrendous rasping sounds? Madison wished that she was seated behind Tom so that she could give his chair a hard kick. To be continued...
