I was completely fine yesterday at work. Then this morning, I woke up with a sore throat and upset stomach. I also might have a slight fever.
I feel guilty taking the day off cause I already took a sick day this month and so this is like the 2nd time. My boss is a nice guy but still, I don't want him to think I'm slacking. There aren't any defined number of sick days at my workplace. So employees are not sure just how many days they can take off. |

I don't take sick days off, I love to work so even if I am feeling under the weather, I'll go. I hate being in the house and just lying around when I am sick anyway.
Once I went to work when I probably shouldn't have, I at school and was feeling fine, with the exception of this strange pain shooting up my leg. It just felt odd. But then at 10:00, I was SICK. It hit me all at once too. I was sitting at my desk, reading, when my legs jerked slightly and I got very very dizzy and felt like I was going to faint. My teacher saw me behaving kind of funny and saw how pale my face was and gave me a pass to go to the nurse...in all my years of school, I have never once been to the nurses office...I didn't even know where it was located! The trip there was awful. I could barely feel the ground beneath my feet, everything was spinning and I felt really hot. Well anyway, turns out I had developed a high fever, so they sent me home and I went straight to bed after taking so medication. I woke up about 4:00m PM and was suppose to go the work in two hours...I knew that would not be enough time to find a replacement, so I went despite my fever and told my manager that I wasn't feeling well so I shouldn't handle food, so I got to wash dishes all night. Eventually, at 9'oclock, my manager sent me home (I was suppose to work until close) because he said I looked awful and that they could managewithout me, since it was a slow night. I was so relieved because I had to get up at 8 the next morning for work, so i knew I needed a lot of sleep to feel better the next morning. |

If I was in your situation, I wouldnt feel guilty.
I would feel guilty if I took a sick day, even though I wasnt sick at all. This post has been edited by - Nosferatu -: Nov 16 2006, 05:49 PM |

I don't miss work. I'll do 'em, at a relatively slow speed compared to what I'm used to doing. But I get the job done.

Yes,I felt guilty for taking the sick leave even though I was really sick.Mainly that is because of my strong sense of responsibility towards my job and boss.

I've never ever felt guilty taking sick days - in my previous job I used to take nearly every friday and saturday night off my nightshifts - they all knew what I was doing but they didn't do anything haha

Man it's hard as hell for me to get a day off in the navy... First off I have to go see the doctors at 9 in the morning, I don't get in until 10, talk to the doctor, checks me, gives me motrin, and thats' it. It cuts off the morning, but then I have to make up those hours back to the work center, unless I've actually got paper work to prove that I'm really sick or hurt.
