With modernation and development, more are coming into UB. Who can blame them if they want a city life; easy life.

But without gers dotting the steppes, I feel that Mongolia will nolonger be Mongolia.

We can't help how the world is changing, but we have to keep up with it, as long as we dont lose our spirit and independence we'll be fine, and if that is so, Mongolia will always be Mongolia.

Agreed with Subotai, we have to go with the times of the world, or we'll be the laughing stock of the world if we don't do so by our own choice.

Eh I honestly can't see nomadic life lasting another generation.

^Nice and disencouraging, thanx a lot.

One of the symbols/trademarks of Mongolia and Mongolian people across Central Asia is the nomadic way of life. I seriously don't want to see this go but I guess there's really nothing we can do. But we should document everything, and make sure that future generations will always remember what our ancestors' were all about. Humble and tough. The last person to have lived in a ger was my grandfather. *sigh*

Mongolia isn't Mongolia without gers, horses and smiling nomads. Today 1/3 of us are nomads (we are 2.7 million) but I'm sure nomadic lifestyle will last for a long long long time. At least you and your (great grand grand grand)x99 children won't see the end of nomadism biggthumpup.gif

City life is not easier by default. It's about cities providing more opportunities as we speak. An empty countryside with plenty of land for grazing will definitely be more attractive as a city with a lack of jobs.

The land is barely arable and as such it only supports livestock grazing (i.e. nomadic lifestyle). The problem, if there is one, is about urban migration.

Think I'd rather have a nomadic life anyday than a busy unfree city life.
Bitterlemon
^That's what many people think too
