I have many Laos friends in Fresno, and I don't see them behaving like that. Khan is an odd name for Lao prson. I have never heard of such name before, is it Lao or not.
youre right, the Laotian family portrayed on that show is not how real Laotians act

Khan and Minh(weird name for a Lao) are sometimes assholes on that show.
Khan is most likely played off another popular Lao named Kham which could also mean gold in Lao.
i think the producer of the show once had Lao neighbors and had an inspiration. but many things on that show is inaccurate and a misrepresentation of Lao people.
- Khan's voice is similar to a viet or chinese fob rather than a Lao fob.
- The episode when Bobby picked the cane and was revered to be the next Dhali LLama. Obviously that has nothing to do with Theravada Buddhism. It was a portrayal of Tibetan Buddhism.
- The "Lao" that they spoke on the show is a much of made up crap. Even the Pimai episode. I didnt get what Pimai was until i thought about it..."ohhh bpee maii...lao new year"
- Chang Wasahnasong, Bobby's bully at school, has a Lao last name but Chinese first name.
