Korea, where kegogi (cooked dog) is a delicacy and vendors come out at night to sell "dog food" and eat it openly. The Philippine tradition of eating dogs could be pinpointed at around the 70's (because of marshal law?) maybe due to poverty.

So why, is it still taboo to talk about eating dogs in some part of the country and even overseas? I see nothing wrong with it (I've eaten it).

because koreans have a culture that will counteract savage perception of dog eater, but filipine doent have a culture to counter act savage perception... because filipine culture is higly dependent on spanish culture as a civilizing savlation.....

I agree. Being an Ilocano, we eat things that might be disgusting to outsiders that I could consider a mark of who I am, giving no care what people think.

Dinuguan, sawa, bayawak, palaka, etc. are delicacies I very much enjoy when I'm home in the province.

It's animal meat, just like beef, pork and chicken. It's just a matter of preference I guess. I don't know why some westerners would go ape sh!t about it.

actually, there are some places where eating dogs is practically normal. i saw on tv that in baguio and ilocos, it is eaten traditionally. they even use it in marriages

i actually dotn see any deff between the koreans and filipinos when it comes to dog eating. Some parts of the Phil are open to dog eating while others arent same with koreans. and Koreans arent exactly advertising to everyone in the world that they eat dogs. i got korean friends who leave the dog eating part as part of Korean cuisine.

I'm from baguio in the Philippines. i remember my uncle coming home w/ dog meat one night.. actually had a taste. no difference. just the ethnic/moral/cultural issues of peoples prespective that is.

i was about 8-9 years old then. even though meat is meat i'd rather stick to things that i don't have as pets at home. if we went "Survival" about this issue then i don't think nebody would be complaining. it isn't really the issue then it seems wrong.

usually when u kill to eat an animal.. u kill cook n eat it.. torturing n all that $hit just isn't right.

I can see why Americans see dog eating as offensive, they think about their cute Golden Retriver sleeping on their bed being eatin by people. But I don't think its right to judge Filipinos or any culture as disgusting. When I was small I remember hearing about how the Chinese people eat sea turtles and I was sickened. Dog eating is very common in Korea and Vietnam and its popularity is growing in China and Philippines.
Most westerners view dog eating negatively because dogs have been kept as pets and as men's good friends for centuries. In those countries, dogs are specially bred for consumption which I think it is acceptabe but I don't agree someone eating their pet dogs.

not all filipinos eat dogs and cats, like me. It does not mean that if a Filipino eat a dog or cat, it means they eat their pets.

Thais even eat cockroaches, worms, bugs, same for the chinese and many other nationalities. But was is wrong with that? That's their culture.
