larb. yummmm. the only gaeng nor i like is gaeng nor som. i dont like the original dark one... thom khem for some reason tastes good despite the fact that it's supersalty. and finally... gai ping is not good. but the wings, thights, and drumsticks are good. the rest is bleh...

why do you guys spell it larb, its laap.
thaidumb
Dec 26 2006, 01:09 AM
different dialects. in my dialect.. i think laab is the spelling that describes the pronunciation most accurately. in thai it's more like larb. i just go with what i think is most universal.

Dec 26 2006, 02:25 PM
i can't help but spell it larb that's wat the websites say

plus the "r" in it is just extending the double a in laab

but yes...how is the diet going thaidumb?

i believe in no diet.. buahar... nah. i live away from my parents so during the holidays when i visit, i pig out... it's funny. before school i had plenty muscle mass. during school i got skinnier. durin break i got fatter. once school starts though i'm gonna try to continue the cycle and get bulky again. but for now.. just enjoying the lao food i miss so much. really bad for me though cause the week beforehand i was punishing myself with energy drinks. i feel like my heart is beating harder this week than it ever did. this is what prompted me to consider a lao diet for now haha :/

I've been powerlifting for 5 years now and did wrestling for 2 years. 2 sports in which diet is important. But diets never work. So just eat whatever. I just ate watever my mom makes which consists a lot of vegetables and meat. since we eat rice everyday, theres no problem with insufficient carbs. Just eat whatever u want but burn more what u intake.
thaidumb

u said diets are important, then u said it never works. paradoxical. it doesn't matter what u eat as long as u u burn more than what u take in.. true, but i would then have to eat less than i can burn, which requires a planned diet. a diet's then important cause u need to be able to fill ur stomach, yet portion ur intake on something like carbs. unless u want to fulfill ur carbs needs while risking an empty stomach which leaves u uneasy and prone to overeating the next time. i don't know. i just wonder if there's anything lao yet healthy.

yeah most of the time I don't make sense but somehow it just works for me. But just like the whole cliche but true fact, eat breakfast. With lao food, any stir fried with meat and lots of vegetables like brocoli, cauliflower, and spinache gives u a lot of essential servings. White Spring Rolls are a good snack too since they put a lot of vegetables in it and after 3-5, u can become full.
P.S. I say white spring rolls because here in japan theres a lot of different version of spring rolls and I only know the laos name of it.

yeah, this is what my mom cooks for me. its very hearty and filling. keeps you energized. but if youre trying to lose weight just keep your portions low. eat half of what you'd usually eat.

Stir fry something is global. In Lao, it's called khua (fry) or khua haeng (stir fry), using originally animal oil (from pig's fat), which is now becoming less and less used. However, Lao food is usually prepared either grilled (piing paa, piing kai, etc., or yaang, like yaang kai, kai yaang), or broiled with fish sauce, vegetables and spices either without added water, called mok or hor mok, or by adding a small volume of water (tom, pon, ohr, etc), or with plenty of water, like kaeng. Lao food is also prepared fresh, like larb, and others.
