I know that Filipinos abroad especially in an unfriendly country feels that they are being disrespected or insulted.

now if that happens to you, or if for instance, a foreigner disrespected/insulted our race,

the big question is what will you do?

If that happened here in the Phil., and if the insult is unforgivable/Intolerable, I will surely hit him with a straight punch followed by (pardon me for the word),

That never happened to me, at least not on my face. If in case that happens, I'd walk to them with a serious face and say "You're sister's pu$$y, tastes like sweet butter. In fact I turned her into a Filipino with the amount of Filipino DNA I've unloaded in her poonani." laugh.gif

Just be the best person you can be. Never reciprocate rudeness or violence. And be proud of being Filipino. That's pretty much it. It's kinda dumb but whole cultures and nationalities are sometimes judged by the first person's they meet from that background.

Naiintindihan kita pare. Remember this old saying, "Respect is not given, but it is earned."

as a people be more educated about the world and about our selves. our history, culture and customs. people tent to respect people who respect themselves, so conduct yourselves in a dignified manner.

how to be respected as a filipino?

well take me as an example. im cool with everyone, and rarely had a problem with anyone. this is because i kept my standards high, and never let peer pressure over power me. i dont mix in with the crowd, but i stand out by being true to myself, share and practiced my beliefs. im a proud filipino. i bring filipino food to lunch everyday at school. i speak tagalog to my few fellow filipinos at my school even if they dont understand or speak it. i speak about my country alot with my friends. i dont cause trouble or start a fight with friends. the best weapon to gain respect is humility. i dont drink, smoke, nor do drugs. i rarely swear (for the most part, i dont). im not rude. i open the door for everyone. i am considered by many a peer counselor. i treat everyone equally. etc..

im known all over the place for that reason. a good man whos chillin and cool with everyone. always smiling, open and friendly. and for that reason i gain respect with many ppl, almost everyone from my school. and with everyone behind my back, it will be hard for someone to start beef with me. biggthumpup.gif

Id let him talk $hit about my race first then warn him to stop it already but if he still runs his mouth like a b!tch, id definitely send him to his maker. icon_twisted.gif aint that sound gangsta or what!? hahahha

Seriously, id never heard no one talked $hit about filipinos in real life or in my face, only in the internet these racists are brave enough to vent their frustrations.
Najjiah
we are already respected. i think its all in the mind. if u feel dissed and defeated then it must be in the way u percieve things. i just tend to ignore mean critical people of any nationality & go on about my business in a peaceful manner. if i am confronted with an a$$hole then i just silently think this poor guy is miserable hence his behavior. u just have to apreciate the beauty around u. set aside the detractors & the negative energy. life is too phucking short to get ulcers & worry 24/7 what ppl think about u.

sooner or later we will all die. i wanna live it drama-free while im still here.

Respect yourself.

Yes well, thats part of the problem. Most of you Pinoys practice one rule at home and act all like your angels abroad, a lot lack the stomach to face a confrontation in the face of other races.

Most of you who have posted think that respect will be earned just by being a good citizen alone, that is simply not the case for every scenario. Part of the problem also is that non Filipinos think we're all too submissive. In a lot of cases, we are.

The country is consumed with trying to be as white as possible. That to me is laughable. Filipinos are all too readily to bow bowdown.gif to anything thats got two legs and is of pale complexion.

Only today i was watching a Wowowee add of a white man married to a filipina woman and how they were glorifying him being on the show and how he possed with the wowowee girls. WELL fu-k!!! i said to myself. I thought to myself, i couldnt give a $hit about him and whats wrong with making a clip of a pure native or perhaps a balikbayan in his place instead?

Its ok trying to be proud of who you are and where you came from, its the other side of the coin when one is either being blatantly disrespected or subtley Filipinos will go out of their way to try and be nice and talk/walk themselves out of a possible confrontation, but if it were back home. Yeah WE ARE HARD BECAUSE WE GOT GANGS!!! embarassedlaugh.gif when actual fact your all a bunch of pussies.

I have more respect for a Filipino who can walk from a possible confrontation from one of his own and would gladly fu-k any c_nt disrespecting him in a foreign land. There is one other Filipino who falls in this category, if only there were more like him. icon_confused.gif

did you really think about what you said or were you just ranting randomly cuz it seems like you think the only way people will respect filipinos is if they beat up anyone who they get into confrontation with. icon_confused.gif

theres are reason why Filipinos abroad act like angels....its because if your an imigrant and you get arrested for assaulting someone...Your @ss can gets deported and all that hard work you did to get a good job just went down the drain.

and let me tell you simple why those people are in love with trying to be white....it cuz they have NO self Respect. No One respects someone who cant even respect themselves.

Ive neither said trying to be a good law abiding citizen was wrong, its when Filipinos are confronted with the worst case scenario that they be only too happy to turn their backs from a confrontation whilst back home in the Philippines it will not be tolerated. So whats your point!!

You sound like you were just born yesterday, you go on as if Filipinos were FOB's. There have been many new generations that have lived in abroad, i for one are one of them. Did i specifically say "IMMIGRANTS"?.
Filipinos that are of different citizenship act no different than their immigrant counterparts. So whats new?

With regards the self respect $hit, you hit the nail on the head. Thats why Foreigners dont respect Filipinos cuz you go on extending the "PAKISAMA" thing all too readily to them than you would to your own!!. Nice!!

from experiance i have friends who like your implying dont turn away from confrontations and instead try to be a bad@ss. well they stabed a puerto rican in the heart cuz the guy bumped into him and dint say sorry. you think anyone actually respects that fool? his a fukking laughing stock. you to cough up in this "bad@ss" bull$hit. you can learn it the easy way and take my word for it or the hard way by doing it yourself.. either way..the respect you get for those actions arent from the people you want respect from.

Stop acting like a total idiot, your talking about how filipinos act soft in US but act Hard at home(Philippines). so if you think about it it would be safe to assume that when youre comparing how filipinos act when in US and when their in the philippines(home), it right to assume that your talking about that Majority who are immigrants. next time fix your wording if your only talking about filipino-american and not the Majority immigrants that way you wont come out like just a ranting lunatic

I agree Barilin its not about throwing down everytime you feel insulted real or perceived but stand your ground when you know you are in the right. Head held high and say yeah I am filipino and proud. People dont need to love you, they dont even need to like you but respect is a 2 way street. If you fold just for the sake of getting along then no one will respect you, least of all your self.

i think having pride is both a good and bad thing. it shows that filipinos arent ready to fully adopt and assimulte to their host countrie's culture and they can preserve their own, it shows they have not lost their roots, and i admire your pride. i think everyone should be proud of their roots reguardless of nationality, rich or poor, reputation .. when it gets a bit overdone, that's where the problem starts. btw, its not just filipinos who get like this, but it's way common to see filipinos doing it. To be fair, even some japanese americans have this nationality problem icon_confused.gif i knew some that always b!tch about the past, always b!tching about how japanese imperial soldiers not winning and how they should've pwned american troops ... scray ..

Just to fill you in on something, that may well be true with Filipinos here in the states but you go elsewhere like europe, middle east, other parts of asia. This is not the case. Filipinos arent really regarded as much of anything but a bunch of domestic helpers even though they are scholars. So in these part of the world they really have little to be very nationalistic about.
