any new yorkers out there who can recommend a budget boutique hotel of around $120 a nite in midtown NYC?

one that's preferably not far from nearest subway to the Bronx... thx
Ben
$120 midtown? lol that might be hard to find.. Midtown is around 180+ for a good one. Now if it's a shared hotel or "hostel" then maybe you're find one for that price. There's one in soho that's cheap. sohotel-ny.com I never used it before.. so I'm not going to recommend it personally. but it does fit your price range.

thx Ben, i found an apartment for about $130 a night which is not a bad price for midtown Manhattan i guess! I've stayed in a dorm before (Jazz In the Park near Central Park) and it cost no more than $70.. so there are some good bargains around i am sure particularly in winter

what's the best dim sum restaurant in Soho???? any recommendations i shouldn't miss?

$120 a night? --- u won't be able to get a really nice hotel. Try Holiday Inn or a Marriott.

I done a fair amount of research last nite and there is a good hotel called The Pod Hotel New York near St Patrick's Cathedral that was going for around that price, it's formerly known as the Pickwick Arms and has great reviews from budget travellers. The rooms are newly renovated with flatscreen tv and even an iPod docking station by the bedside!! how cool is dat?

but i chose an apartment cuz i figure it's nice to have someone's living room and kitchen to hang out instead of a tiny shoebox of a room in most hotels.

The HI or the Marriot are mid-range hotel, rooms could go more than $200 or $300 over a weekend!

I did look at the Belvedere, but decided that an apartment would be better for 7 nights as it gives you the freedom to hang out in an apartment chillin' instead of being forced to beat the streets in sub-zero degrees temps in NYC. I can't stand the idea of keeping cooped up in a shoebox room found in most of these budget hotels.

The link to the NYC holiday apartments is :

I took the studio apartment option and the rate I got was fairly lower than what is advertised on the site! Will let u know how the experience went if u wanna know.
