Condolences for Kru Juling

Juling Pangamoon, a teacher who was beaten into coma in May last year, has passed away Monday at 4:30pm after being in coma since May last year.


Doctors said her condition had deteriorated tremendously early Monday morning. It was announced earlier in the morning that her lungs were infected and that the oxygen level in her blood has also declined alarmingly.

Early this morning, Dr. Sumet Peerawut, the director of the Prince of Songkhla Hospital where the teacher is being treated, had asked the public to pray for her recovery but also to prepare for the worst.

Juling was beaten near death last May by a group of about ten young men after a group of female villagers held her hostage amid a hostage standoff in the remote Narathiwat village of Kuching Reupah.

The native of Chiang Rai who volunteered to be posted in restive region as a public school teacher has attracted national and international attention following the incident that drew a great deal of criticism on the security forces for failing to react promptly to the incident.
