Someone just asked me why is Philippines spelled with a PH but Filipino is spell with an F, i didnt really know the answer, but my guess would be something along the lines of; in the Tagalog language there are no letters F and H and F and P are used interchangeably....
and maybe Americans turned Pilipino to Filipino? iono... what is the answer?

no way, not even close. I mean it is good slang. It is totally acceptable, like Pinoy is how we filipinos call each other. To most non filos we are filipinos but to us, we are pinoys/pinays.

yup. traditionally there's no f's or v's in most filipino dialects. therefore filipino though official, is still pilipino in tagalog.
