MUMBAI (AFP) - India's hottest cinema couple are engaged to be married, their representatives has said, setting the stage for Bollywood's most glamorous wedding bash in years.

Superstar Aishwarya Rai and heart-throb Abhishek Bachchan, son of screen legend Amitabh Bachchan, became engaged Sunday at his beachfront home in the exclusive Juhu district of Mumbai, Rai's secretary Hari Singh told AFP Monday.

"This news is true. They got engaged Sunday morning in Mumbai," Singh said

Relatives said the marriage was being scheduled for February or March.

Well, i've only seen her two movies so far, Mistress of Spice and Umrao Jaan, and I have to say both movies relied on her make up and closeup shots of her facial features. She can't dance and has zero chemistry with her co-stars. basically, the camera just has an obsession of her features, and she comes across as a wooden actress devoid of character and emotion.

I prefer her ex-bf, Vivek Oberoi. That's a great actor (Othello) and one helluva sexy hawtie!

You haven't seen her in her older movies. I think she looks her worst in Mistress of Spices and Bride and Prejudice(i thought she looked the ugliest out of the 5 sisters and I'm a huge fan).
Watch her beauty and dancing skills in Taal, HDDCS, Kandukondain. She looked her absolute gorgeous best in Aa ab laut chalen, Jean, Aur Pyar Ho gaya, HDDCS, Albela etc. back when she was in her early 20s

in my own humble opinion, she was her very best in dil ka rishta & HDDCS. she danced quite amazingly in albela, too.

Abhishek is of mixed ethnicity.Amitabh's mother is a Punjabi and his father Kayasth from UP.

Abhishek is also Bengali from his mom's side (the actress Jaya Badhuri).



Bacchan is also a UP Kayastha last name, and not a Punjabi surname.

But, Amitabh's birthname was Shrivastava (also a UP-ite surname). I think his poet father changed the family name to his pen name.

Aishwarya is a Tulu (a Dravidian-speaking ethnicity from Karnataka, South India), while Abishek is mixed ethnicity (1/2 Bengali, 1/4 Kayastha UPite, 1/4 Punjabi).


You should watch Taal, Devdas, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. That's when she was in her prime (in terms of looks, acting and dancing).
