Alright, don't be too offensive. I guess since you are japanese; you might have some ideas about this man. For those of you who dont know him. Here is the story which I took it from Wikipedia. This might be too old, but I just read it some where from China thread.

"Issei Sagawa served time in a French jail for the murder of the Dutch Renée Hartevelt, a classmate at the Sorbonne Academy in Paris. In 1981, Sagawa was studying avant garde literature. He invited her to dinner under the pretense of literary conversation. He shot her in the head upon her arrival, beginning to carry out his plan of eating her. She was selected because of her health and beauty, those characteristics Sagawa believed he lacked. In interviews, Sagawa describes himself as a "weak, ugly and small man" and claims that he wanted to "absorb her energy."

He fainted after the initial shot, but awoke under the realization that he must carry out his desires of eating her. He did so, beginning with her hips. In interviews, he noted his surprise at the "corn-colored" nature of human fat. For two days, Sagawa ate various parts of her body. He described the meat as "soft" and "odorless", like tuna. After two days, he dumped the mutilated body in a park, but was seen in the act. Five days later, he was arrested by the French police. However, the French psychologists found him legally insane and unfit to stand trial. Instead, he was deported back to Japan, where he was put in a mental institution. However, the deportation order did not specify how long Sagawa must remain in the institution. 15 months later, Sagawa checked himself out, and has been a free man ever since."

What strange is that he is also well-known and became a popular Japanese celebrity (from what I read). He wrote books about what he did. He was also invited to some talk show and all that. People just adore him. OK, now this is what I am asking. Why? Don't you guys disgust by what he did? Tell me what you really think. beerchug.gif

I not sure what Japanese people think. But from what I read, he is not "popular Japanese celebrity" and people do not adore him. I think he known in Japan just as Dahmer known in U.S. There will always be a small segment of any country population which buy books written by well known criminals.

haha i saw him (or some other japanese chap) on 60 minutes where he, in japan, goes to nighclubs to find caucasian women to lure into a motel. In an interview, he's like, "I like white woman" haha

Sagawa was more of a celebrity in Europe than he was in Japan. After killing the Dutch girl (not German), he returned to Europe at one point and was treated almost like a movie star. Two young German ladies escorted him everywhere he went.

The Japanese by contrast are fascinated by him but also find him repulsive. When the French judge that sentenced Sagawa to life in a sanitarium went to Japan to talk with doctors there about cannibalism and how the Japanese relate to it, he found that they were more repulsed by Sagawa than Europeans were.

When a movie was made based on Sagawa's exploits, his cannibalism was virtually glorified and when he devours the woman, it is at her request and is depicted as a sexual act and a consummation. The movie was Italian not Japanese.

To my knowledge he did not write any books about his murder of the young woman. A Japanese author wrote to Sagawa during his incarceration and they struck up a correspondence. This author then published the letters and the book became a bestseller but this was done without Sagawa's permission and, as far as I know, he never received a penny in royalities or fees and has sought no recompense.

As far as the Japanese letting him out of incarceration, that had nothing to do with them championing what he did. The French let him out too. The reason was simple, he is reserved and well behaved that there simply seemed to be no point in continuing to hold him--he is either incurable or he is sane--no one could decide. So the French decided the easiest thing to do would be to deport him back to Japan and let them deal with him. At first, the Japanese locked him up but, like the French, they came to realize there wasn't much point to it. So, like the French, they simply let him go. But they also keep close tabs on him and laughingly refer to him as "Hannibal" (he hated "Silence of the Lambs" btw because he felt it did not depict cannibals accurately).

Finally I cut off her private parts. When I touch the pubic hair it has a very bad smell. I bite her clit, but it won't come off, it just stretches. So I throw it in the frying pan and pop it in my mouth. I chew very carefully and swallow it. It is so sweet. After I swallow it, I feel her in my body and get hot.

Anywayz, that was one of the most digusting story ever. I am feeling sick in my stomach right now. But the thing is that I didn't want to stop reading it. eek.gif I can't believe that he is still out there talking $hit about wat he did and people's reaction. Even Japanese or French government didn't do anything , I guess there are some people who wanted to kill him, rite?
p/s: I am too scared to click to see those crime pics, but I am really curious.

The truly sad thing about the Sagawa-Haartevelt story is that it appears that this girl probably loved him and would have married him. She was highly intelligent and sort of bookish as was Sagawa. Both loved Beethoven and Handel. He was exactly the kind of man she felt comfortable with and could settle down with. She gave every indication of feeling that way towards him but Sagawa had no interest in her other than devouring her flesh. She had even written to her parents about him saying that she had met this wonderful person she wanted to bring home to Holland for them to meet. Pretty much says it all. He shot her in the back of the head in his apartment while she was reciting poetry to him in German. He was obsessed with white women and, in particular, with bare white female shoulders. When he saw them, he was overcome with a desire to bite into them. The photos of her dismembered corpse at the police station are particularly horrifying (although, oddly, her shoulders appear to be untouched). Her parents were so grief-stricken that their marriage fell apart. Sagawa tried once to write to them and apologize and explain that he didn't kill the girl out of hate or sadism--that he thought Renee was the most beautiful woman that had ever lived--but he acted from an uncontrollable hunger for female flesh that he had been experiencing since the age of three. He didn't want to kill her but merely to eat her. The letter was returned unopened.

Here is some stupid $hit that I read of the guy who actually ADOREs this sick creepy man.
"I have a good friend involved in the publishing industry and who has lived in Japan for several years. Through him and much effort on my part, I was able to arrange to have dinner with Issei Sagawa on the evening of Saturday the 19th of June 2004. It took some time on my friend’s part to convince Mr. Sagawa that he should attend. Indeed I paid Mr. Sagawa the sum of $2000.00 (U.S.) to assuage his concerns which, as he told me, stem from the notoriety of his indiscretion and the number of sickos in the world. I had arranged and paid for a Japanese/English interpreter to also attend our dinner meeting (although as it transpired, his English is good).

Issei Sagawa arrived on time and although reserved, as the evening progressed it became obvious to me that he is a man of wit and humour with a gifted spirit and gracious, comprehensive understanding of the mystery and beauty of life; an intimate man of exceptional compassion, sympathy and cheekiness in the face of adversity. Mr. Sagawa represents the hollowness of modernity that we can continue to look but refuse to see; that we can take offence more often than it is given and that the future beckons. He epitomises the emptiness of vague misgivings in a disadvantaged world of professional deceivers and an all-pervading mockery of the banal.

Mr. Sagawa suffers from diabetes and is therefore careful as to the food he consumes. His personality has a force that distorts the contours both of judgement and of everyday perception. (The interpreter, who was a striking Japanese woman in her early twenties, swiftly and overtly fell in love with him as the evening progressed – although he confided to me that he is only attracted to white girls.) He is an expert on Shakespeare and dresses with an elegance both timeless and calculating. He represents the antithesis of the comprehensive dismissal of values and the recent adoption of pornography as the aesthetic standard by which all endeavour is categorised, while leaving his impressionistic fingerprints on everybody’s imagination.

Surely Issei Sagawa deserves better from people who pride themselves on their much-vaunted humanity and from his local community to which - in his special way - he has given so much. Is the world truly one where equality, decency and an aggressive belief in the uniqueness of all people enshrined or are we all addictively bound to the pleasingly false mirages we project?

My evening with Mr. Sagawa was expensive, but worth every cent. I was honoured by his truthfulness, intrigued by his polished reticence and charmed by his ingratiating style. He remains a man among men, my meeting with whom I shall always cherish."

just exactly how did he get away with murder let alone cannibalism?

if i'm mistaken, i think he somehow was rescued by his father and sent to some sanitarium where he was declared sane and set free.

how corrupt is that! thumbsdown.gif

and now he writes books and is somewhat a celebrity now? wtf!!!?!?!?

None of these stories are true. They were tabloid newspaper stories made up to sell papers and often contradicted one another. Some said they were boyfriend and girlfriend and then he killed her when she tried to break it off. Not true. Some said she went to his flat out of pity for him. Not true. As for sex, Sagawa wasn't particularly turned on by sex although he was perfectly capable. He is turned on by cannibalizing young white females.

Before the murder, Sagawa and some friends were going to try to eat at different ethnic restaurants. At one point, someone mentioned Japanese and Sagawa he could fix sukiyaki for them. On the appointed day, however, only Rene Hartevelt showed up at his door. Any man with any experience with women at all knows what that means. They talked long into the night and listened to Beethoven and Handel pieces that they both loved. Again, clear indication that she was falling for him. Before she left, he asked her if she would teach him German so he could read the poems of Becher in the original and she agreed (she was Dutch but also spoke fluent German). She showed up at his flat three different subsequent nights and read to him in German before he killed her (while she was reading to him and not as she walked through the door as someone else reported)--three times she came to his flat to read him love poems in German. Do the math, guys. Then you have the letter she sent home telling her parents about Sagawa and how she planned to bring him back to Holland to meet them. Women don't do that with men they have no interest in.

She loved him or was falling in love with him because they were alike in many ways. That's what makes the story hard to bear--that he would do this to this woman who clearly adored him.
Lapin_Bleu
Well, i don't know what to say, i am not very knowledgeable about psychology...
i am but a simple minded guy who think weirdo who kill other people should be sentenced to death.
that's about all of my point of view, i am not interested in him, nor in the photos, nor in why he has done that.
it is pretty sad for this woman and her family, and also sad in a sens for this Japanese guy.
i think France should have killed him.. but as France never kill weirdo, not even sane criminal...
i just wish this kind of thing never happen to someone dear to me, cause i wouldn't eat him alive but i would kill him for sure.
