It's more important for both partners to be free of STDs than for them to have or not have prior experience.

The preference for virgins originated due to the need to avoid STDs. However, with today's blood tests and whatnot, it's better to ask for pap smear results than to assume your partner is STD-free by way of virginity and assume non-virgins have STDs.

So, relying on virgins as a way of avoiding STD's isn't an effective method anymore. Keep in mind that saying you're a virgin doesn't mean that you have partaken in other things.
