Comparing yourself to models is just unrealistic and does nothing but dwindles your self-esteem. Hello? They are models because they have talents in the looks department.

For instance, if I compared myself to Jude Law, of course I'm hideous. But if I compare myself to fellow classmates, I'm easily one of the better looking persons in the room.

I compare myself to others in my age group.
Comparing yourself, when you are under 33 years of age and have no obvious deformities, to the general population is just mean. Have you SEEN some people out there? If you compare yourself to them your head will get too big.

Good thread.
Back when I was in university when I was around a lot of people my age, I felt like crap about my looks. But now that I'm working in a company where there are a lot of 30-40 year old married guys with bellies, I feel a lot better.

I hope you won't let youself eat Burger King for lunch every day like I did when I was working with older people.

I was like...yeah I don't look at hot as some of the 18-year-olds on my campus but hey at least I'll look better than the office manager even if I gain 10 lbs....and totally let myself go. And then I quit and started a job working with people who are younger than I was, reality hit, and decided it's time for a change.

I compare my height with that of other girls at school who are around my own age. I'm so short. It's awful. I'm pretty satisfied with my face if I were to compare it to other ordinary people though (but it's also like a roller coaster, sometimes I feel better about myself, sometimes I feel like $hit). But still, that's not saying much.

*ah-hem* to respond. i don't think i'm unnattractive. i think i could be more attractive, but definitely not UN attractive. aiight. i make a LOT of self-deprecating comments. but really, it depends on my mood. and half the stuff i say, i say just cos i like to talk-
really if i were to have that much low self-esteem. i'd probably be at the surgeons office by now and not online just typing whatever i felt like & spamming af forums. beauty & health are topics that interest me the most... you know how some people like to go on to politics topics and debate everything (flamers), well this is what i like to do.

Anyways 1 out of about 500 people are "goodlooking". Anyone else might be cute or non-ugly. If you're hot then you're hot, no need to compare yourselves with models, etc. Alot of time you don't neccesarily have to have "perfect features" to be considered very hot, it might be charm or charisma or an aura that you possess.

It's not good to compare yourself to other people because you are compensating for an illusion as well as being unfair to yourself and the comparisee. It's shallow. It's much healthier and realistic to gauge your own lifestyle and health and wellness as indicators of personal attractiveness. Short, tall, blonde, brunette, pale, dark, skinny to heavy, wear glasses etc. We are all different and unique but its our health that is the most important physically, emotionally, and mentally. When you are healthy, things tend to fall in the right place. And the emphasis and prioritization on important or real deal will sustain you and keep you happier in the long run. Don't take to heart the superficial ideals and fads of the moment, rather have fun with them.
