Some Muslim-bashing Bollywood movies (such as Gadar or Pinjar or some random patriotic Sunny Deol film) kinda piss me off too. icon_redface.gif

In other news, Bal Thackeray has signed up to play the role of Muhammad in Mel Gibson's new Bollywood movie, The passion of Allah....

I'm just laughing at the video itself(which was a amusing yet sophmoric attempt at propaganda) and the comments, I don't think half the people that posted comments actually know anything about Bollywood. Bollywood it farely neutral when it comes to things like religon.

That was indeed a propoganda video. It selectively hand-picked certain scenes from films to make them appear anti-Muslim, when the films as a whole were neutral. Although some Bollywood films have Muslim-bashing (i.e. the ones I've already mentioned), most Bollywood films are generally more neutral towards Muslims (and certainly better than Hollywood in that regard), which is probably due to at least a third of global Bollywood audiences being Muslim.

But seriously, movies like Gadar and Pinjar pissed me off so much I had to go to the toilet.

I don't know about Gadar, but Pinjar was based off of a novel by Amrita Pritam.

What did you think about "Escape from Taliban"(is that what it's called) with Manisha Koirala?

And honestly, these Hindu falling in love with Muslim plots are getting so played out....Next time, I want to see a movie about a Hindu girl falling in love with someone from Andaman and Nicobar islands instead.

There was nothing wrong with the plots themselves but the execution of the films were flawed (things like bias against "the other", mindless Paki-bashing, factual inaccuracies, lack of neutrality, etc.)

Escape from Taliban is a good film (without any songs for once) largely based on a true story, as long as the context is understood to be a depiction of Taliban society rather than mainstream Muslim society.

I completely agree with you najjiah. Bollywood is pretty pro-pakistan in my opinion.

i've never understood this...if bollywood doesnt like Christians, then why do they have so many songs taking places in churches, Christian weddings, and in the middle of a song, the couple walks into a chuch, and does the crucifix sign. i've seen this many times...it's so weird.

The other films you mentioned are neutral, but Gadar? That movie was full of Paki-bashing (like quite a few other Sunny Deol movies).

Is that Pakistani movie neutral about India? (Or do they resort to Indian-bashing too?)

how is gadar anti-paki? he married amisha, didnt he? granted she converted into sikh but still.... it shows that love has no boundaries. *even tho there really are*

i think movies like Bombay should be praised. they bring indians together.

Gadar was ultra-patriotic and ultra-nationalistic for a start, then we have all the Paki characters pretty much being a bunch of bad guys (except for leading lady Amisha), and Sunny preaching about the greatness of India/Indians and crapiness of Pakistan/Pakis, etc. I can pick up on these ultra-nationalistic stuff quite easily. The movie can still be enjoyable though if you ignore them, like 300 (even though that movie was anti-Persian to the core).

Bombay was a classic. The story was very good for a Bollywood movie (or was it a South Indian movie?), but what I remember most about it was A. R. Rahman's music though.

By the way, is your sig/avatar from some black & white S&M porno?
