What would the country be like if it wasnt colonized by Spain?
I think if it wasnt colonized by Spain, the majority of the people would be Muslims like our southern neighbours. The islands could have been named Maharlika or something. The British might have colonized it. They didn't force their culture/religion on the people they conquered unlike the Spaniards. We might even be speaking the Malay/Indonesian right now and be part of Malaysia or Indonesia
Or it might be like Taiwan where the natives are a minority and Chinese are the majority. Limahong invaded Philippines during the early years of Spanish colonization of the country so if the Spanish wasn't there, the native Filipinos would have been conquered by the pirates and become a Chinese colony. The two nations are close to each other so it would easy for them to settle in our country
What do you guys think?

there arne't really ifs or buts. history is cruel? history don't have feelings, history is just a parchment. we all live life on the present, we only learn from the past. that means theres alot of just accepting, and trying to make the future somewhat better than it is.

If we weren't counqured by Spain and became a Chinese colony, we would have been included in the Spheres of Influence. In the end United States would still try to annex Philippines so it dosen't matter.

We would be colonized by Portugal and added to Indonesia. Then all Filipinos now would be Indonesians and Muslims. Since the Dutch took over all Portuguese possessions during the 1700s, the Philippines would then be part of the Dutch East Indies (i.e., Indonesia). Americans won't take over the Philippines since the onyl reason Americans did so is because of the Spanish-American war. Now, if we weren't occupied by the Spanish then we will remain under Netherlands. Ultimately, the Philippines would just be the northern fringe of Indonesia and will just be relegated to the status of a province.
Manila would be without Intramuros and would not have any skyscrapers or ultramodern malls and vast highways and rail transit systems since it would only be a tiny provincial capital which is very far from the ultimate capital- which is Jakarta.
Cebu and Davao would remain as municipalities with simple barung-barongs (i.e. shanties), just like Manila.
The faces of the population would vastly differ from what is it now - all Filipinos would look like Indonesians, no mestizos or chinitos anymore. Philippines would remain backward (and not English-speaking), and we would only be speaking Bahasa Indonesian, Tagalog, and Dutch.
However, positive effects of not being colonized by Spain would be:
1) Lack of colonial mentality
2) Lack of elites who are part-Spanish, part-American, part-European, or part-Chinese.
3) And as a result of the lack of mestizos, there is an entertainment industry with all people having equal chances to get in.
4) Probable rise of nationalism against the mother country (in this example, it is Indonesia)
5) We'd probably still have full control of Sabah and parts of East Kalimantan.
6) No Mindanao conflict.

it is possible that the other islands would become muslim, but then again, maybe it wont because each island is an independent kingdom with its own rajah. it may form alliances with other rulers of other island in the archipelago but it will remain independent under their own rajah. tribal wars and conflicts are not new. they already existed before the time of lapulapu.
we cant really say what this islands would be if it wasnt colonized by spain. i think there wont be much change outside manila and the tagalog region and the major settlements like iloilo, negros and cebu. remember it was the spanish friars who learned our languages and wrote books in our languages thus preserving our culture. they try to become like us instead of us becoming like them.

they probably did to those in big more urban seetlements like manila, panay, negros and cebu. but here in the other parts of the island. they have to learn our ways too. or else they will have a problem. there arent much spaniards here so if they are not careful with their deeds they might not see the next sunrise. and most often if not always the de facto administrator of spain in places outside big urban settlements are friars. and these friars arent always the bad ones. in fact, many are good and respected by the people. although they try to brainwashed us about their god who would punish us if we dont follow what the church (friars) tells us, so they do the psychological warfare but they cant shoved it down our throat, that is why we can see a culture and religion that is halohalo, tribal beliefs mixed with spanish ones.

ang they have very close relationship with the people of east asia epecially the chinese. so i really do not see the entire philippines becoming part of say malaysia or indonesia if the spaniards didnt colonized it. plus the fact that malaysia only becomes malaysia because of the british. and indonesia becomes indonesia because of the dutch.

All Filipinos, from Batanes to the Northern coasts of Mindanao, and that includes the entire Luzon and Visayas islands, came from Taiwanese Aborigines, specifically from the Ami tribe.
The Filipinos share the same facial features and culture with the Ami tribe of Taiwan
THe Ami tribe, as well as those Malaysians and Indonesians, according to Peter Bellwood, ultimately came from Southern China.
Furthermore, genetic researchers identified that 55% of all the genes that Filipinos have are actually from the Chinese, specifically from the Chinese people of Fukienese - if you still don't notice - many Fukienese Chinese (who make up the vast majority of the Chinese here) look quite similar to Filipinos, except for their skin color.
So lambasting the Chinese would also be lambasting yourselves..

I think all Southeast Asians came from Southern China. The only native people in Southeast Asia that didn't come from China are the Negritos and Papuans.
